Understanding bipolar disorder

I've discussed my boyfriend on here before, and have mentioned that he has mental health issues as well. He is diagnosed w/ bipolar/ manic depression. With the arrival of his son, and him not having any contact or information, it has really affected his depression, and his manic episodes have been a lot closer and more intense. ( not sleeping for several days at a time, obsessive thoughts, etc) I would like to be able to better understand this dx, so that I may help him. any and all information is welcome. I'm sorry to hear that he is struggling. Has he not been able to explain his diagnosis to you? Everyone is different so it would be difficult for others to explain him to you. Maybe you can ask if he is willing to have you talk with his doctor or counselor to get some insight.
