Unsure on how to be successful πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

I know this is unrelated from anxiety and depression but it's been giving me both of those thinking about school and thinking about what I actually want to commit to in my life that will make me successful. I'm currently a college student and I hate college, I hate showing up for class, I hate cracking open the book to try and learn the material, and I hate the seemingly endless homework my professors give me. I'll cut to the chase concerning my situation, I'm a sophomore at WVU Tech, I had my classes paid for last year and now I'm taking out loans. I feel like I'm in between rock and a hard place because if I drop out all that time I put towards school will be wasted and my parents would be greatly disappointed in me, but on the other hand if I go to school unmotivated and just go through the motions and get an average grade or fail most of my classes I'm hurting myself anyways. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated

What would you do if you stopped going to school. Would you get a job and start working? What are you going to school for? Could you maybe change majors to something that would interest you more? Can you talk to an advisor at the college?

I forgot to mention that but I'm working at GNC at the local mall while I'm going to school. I'm going to school in hopes of becoming a pharmacist. Idk what other major I would be more interested in, adventure recreation would be a pretty cool major or sports medicine maybe. I mean I've talked to a counselor here, and she told me that I have to decide if sitting in class for four years in order to go into pharmacy is what I really want to do.

It's certainly isn't an easy choice. Take time to figure out what you wanna do.

I wish you luck.

Is there something else you'd rather do for a career? There are lots of jobs where you don't need a 4-year degree.

Idk to be honest. I haven't given it much thought. I thought maybe I'd benefit from where I'm working at GNC right now. I wouldn't get paid a great amount so I'll probably get a second job. I mean college is living hell, I've been depressed on several occasions and I've never actually considered suicide since I started school last fall. I'm not convinced that college is worth my time anymore

All parents want their kids to go to college, but not everyone is meant for it. You might consider visiting a local community college and see what careers are available with a two-year degree. It's very likely at least some of your credit hours will transfer over to a 2-year program, so you won't have completely wasted your time where you are now.

Thank you jkl5500, you have a great point. There's a successful community college that's close to home, I'll look into taking classes there. Thank you for your time buddy, it means a lot to me

You know, sometimes we do things just because everyone else is doing them (like going to college), and then we realize that we don't like it. You are young, and have plenty of time to change directions and pursue something new. I wish you all the best.

Success can be subjective but from what you say and how horrible it is, it’s not working for you.

I graduated years ago and my thought after going through grade school and high school, there’s no way I’m doing 4 more years. I went to cosmetology school and it was only 13 months. And I loved it. You can be successful at various stages in your life. It worked for me at a horrible time.

Then I worked elsewhere and went to school at night for 7 years. I loved college. I changed my focus several times. Is that something you can do? Maybe a class with something you like.

I admire people or kids that know what they want.

My career fell apart and that’s when my anxiety and depression spiked.

But picture yourself as a pharmacist. Do you see yourself doing that?

I have a BA in Marketing management. I worked in that field and loved it. It fell apart and I was devastated.

You can be successful no matter what you do.

I pray that you find a successful career.

Hugs. 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Thank you for your time Dee. At one point in time, I did see myself as a pharmacist and I was passionate about wanting to become one. Now I'm not so sure. I want to do something right now where I'm not stuck with school and pharmacy for the rest of my life if I don't know I'll be happy with it. Working with people and helping people makes me happy, regardless of what I'm doing

Magic shoes, you’ll find your calling. Go to a community college and take some fun classes like painting, photography and maybe those classes could lead somewhere.

Good luck!!

Hi to be truly successful in life you have to find one you enjoy living in. Ok getting a good job and money and having a happy relationship is important but you also have to be your true self. There is no point in having the job, big house, family, and being utterly miserable. So my advice is put your mental growth first at all times and you will lead a happier life. x

You have a great point, that's what I want to try and stay away from. I want to do something I'll be happy sticking with, that'll let me lead a successful life without committing to 8 years of schooling
