I hear that one every day on Sirius channel 33 (I think?) first wave And 80’s on 8. That ones on heavy rotation with Richard Blade. I can’t get enough 80’s music.... especially British new wave and alternative... pretty in pink soundtrack.... lost boys soundtrack... speaking of boardwalks...

I like all the soundtracks you mentioned. From that era I also like INXS, REM, U2, Simple Minds, etc.

I have always loved that U2 album zooropa. Oh it’s so good. That song Stay (faraway so close) and Lemon and horses over the hill... and the song zooropa “a bluer kind of white.. zooropa...” and “she... wore... LEMON.... but never in the daylight”... and that song the edge does... that weird one... also there is this Nelson Mandela tribute album I think it is with this friggin gorgeous U2 song “ordinary love” that is my prayer, used to listen to it every day... gotta hear that song... the lyrics are so beautiful. Also the U2 song “magnificent” will send your soul SOARING. “ I was born, I was born to be with you, in this space and time, after that, and ever after, I haven’t had a clue...” the video is also spectacular.

What British new wave stuff do you like?

Stone Roses, the clash, eurythmics, the cure, madness, soft cell, siouxsie, the specials, Derek and the dominos, all that ska stuff, massive attack, modern English, the smiths, morrissey (the king of my heart), happy Mondays, ABC, roxy music, psychedelic furs, echo and the bunnymen, all that good stuff. Plus, deep in my heart is a special place for run dmc, a tribe called quest, beastie boys, grandmaster flash and the furious 5, sugar hill gang, blondie, New York dolls, velvet underground, Simon and Garfunkel, the stones, social distortion, janes addiction. I’ve been through obsessive periods where I worshipped all of the above..

I worshipped Madness in the 80s, I still love them. I was into the ska big time. I like a lot of the other stuff you mention too. The 80s were amazing!

Yeah the music was the saving grace of the 80’s.

Not much else was happening then.

All the subcultures that came from the music are interesting.

God bless MTV back then. Remember that show Liquid Television?? It was trippy animation from all over the globe like Spike and Mike’s film festivals. Aeon Flux was one of them. And that show 120 minutes?? It was “alternative” videos at like 1am. I lived for it. And Pee Wee’s Playhouse. And the Tracey Ullman show?? That’s where the simpsons were born. That show blew my mind. Can you tell I was a latch key kid?

in reply to Strongheartforever

Yes I remember them, are you in the UK, did you have top of the pops or the tube?

I’m in the states. I bow down at your feet for living in the coolest place where all the most fab poets, musicians, writers, philosophers hail from. And my ancestors. No but top of the pops is legendary. The Smiths played it and blew everybody’s minds to kingdom come. We had this hilarious show outta New Jersey called “dance party USA” and Solid Gold and American Bandstand with dick Clark and Club MTV with downtown Julie brown.

in reply to Strongheartforever

Top o the pops is back on, also there are lots of refund of it from the 80s on telly sometimes.

I don't know the US shows you mention but maybe I'll look for them on YouTube tomorrow.

Yes, the UK is full of amazing musicians and artists.

in reply to Strongheartforever

Some other bands from back then you might like if you don't know them already.

Big country

Bad manners

The jam

Ultravox

Visage

A flock of seagulls

O.m.d

New order

Killing joke

The style council

The farm

Stiff little fingers

Frankie goes to Hollywood

The railway children

The lotus eaters

I was a deejay in the late 80s so I should know more but I'm a bit brain-dead tonight sorry.

Same here brain dead. Oh I love New Order so much. Have you seen Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, it’s a weird one but the soundtrack is so amazing and new order always reminds me of that movie and at the end, the closing credits, plainsong by the cure plays which is so insanely awesome. How cool you were a dj....

in reply to Strongheartforever

New order are amazing..

Nope haven't seen that but it's nother thing I can look into, thanks 🙂

Two bands that you mention that I couldn't get into, the smiths and the stone roses, I could just never get it with them at all, well except every day is like Sunday by the smiths that's a masterpiece. The stone roses, lots o friends keep telling me how good they are, so I'll keep trying with them and you never know.

I Am the Resurrection and Sally Cinnamon and Waterfall and Turn to Stone and Fools Gold and I Wanna be Adored by the Stone Roses.... the melodies are gorgeous and the smiths what??? How can you not love the smiths: there is a light that never goes out and Piccadilly palare and stop me if you’ve heard this one before and then morrissey with suedehead and international playboy and November spawned a monster and tomorrow.... I love those songs... if you could pick a few dance gems from your dj days, what are your top picks?

in reply to Strongheartforever

I just could never get into the smiths, but I'll have a listen to some o the songs you mention.

I'll have to think about the dance gems, it was a long time ago 😶
