Anyone else like meditation in the morning?

I find waking up to be the most anxious part of the day. The first thing I do is go to the bathroom and just do the basics to look after myself (toilet, wash hands/face, drink some water, take pills) and remember to thank myself for doing those things. Already this gets me on a positive trajectory. Then I return to bed, prop myself up a bit, put some headphones in and find a meditation. I'm finding guided ones very helpful atm, there are lots on YouTube (check out Sam Harris on mindfullness and anxiety). On a good day this can turn me right around and even on a bad one it makes things better.

Similar here. I like to watch the birds and listen to the radio... I reckon watching them is my form of meditation. The music I like is Deuter. Beautiful music! I love most kinds of music. I believe I will check out Sam Harris! Thank you! Hope you have a great day too!

Getting better is not just taking medications, it comes back down to the Patient.

You have the tools explained to you, you follow that pathway

I feel like it gets better everyday at the moment, I just have to remember that i'm basically re-wiring my brain and that I can take an active role in that. Thank you for the kind words Bob :D

Oh yes! I feel pretty good when I wake up and just love seeing the sun come up and hearing the birds sing! I use a spiritual-based meditation book that really starts my day off great. Have to have it!

Now I am retired I have reverted to my natural body clock and as I am a night owl go to bed late and get up around 10 ish. I drag myself out of bed and come on my lappy. It can take a good couple of hours before I can do any self care and drag myself out. I don't always make it out and sometimes just veg in my jim jams all day and don't see a soul. x

Ditto .....although I do see the odd soul from time to time! Having a dog also means "walkies",so she has contributed to helping my mental health and general wellbeing. Animals can be better than any pill. Have you ever considered having a pet..obviously it depends what your accommodation allows etc?

Absolutely yes. I'm blessed with two beautiful little Kitties we found at a local shelter. They're so chatty and always happy to see us and they serve as an important reminder that if my cat loves me I must be doing something right. Just being able to look after them and give an animal a good life is very meaningful to me.

Spot on! Great to know you rescued your kittens...our Dog,Hazel,was also from a rescue centre and in a terrible state. They give us unconditional love,don't they animals. Like you say,we can look at how content and happy they are and know that we must be doing something right!

That's a sore point. I own my flat so I can do what I like and I have a cat. I don't really want a dog as they are too much of a tie. My sister (who lives in the downstairs flat) had a wonderful black lab/collie cross called Milly. She was the first dog I had ever really known and I loved the bones of her and her me. I took her out virtually every day until she just dropped dead in April last year. There was no warning nothing and she was only 7. Both me and my sister are still shocked and can't believe it. I am half hoping she does get another dog I can take out but no dog can ever replace Milly. She was gorgeous. Very affectionate and quirky and loved chasing the ball. She was bright as a button and had me in stitches. I miss her so much still and always will.

She got me out and about and we went everywhere. She loved the beach and would swim out to get her ball. She was wonderful. x

Sorry to hear about your loss. My partner and I lost our previous cat Henry quite suddenly too, in about 2 weeks he went from a seemingly happy and healthy 7 year old boy to barely moving and not being able to eat on his own. It turned out to be a very aggressive cancer and we made the painful decision to put him down. It was very sad at the time but when I look back all I have are good memories of him and I know I gave him the best life I could.

After that though we had a cat shaped hole in our lives. It didn't take us long to head for the local shelters. Here's hoping your friend gets a new doggo but you never know what you could manage, if you look at shelters you may well find some older and dogs in need of a quieter existence and some companionship.

Hi,our pets can become so part of us that when the inevitable happens and we loose them,its so hard,almost impossible to think of ever "replacing" her/him. We truly grieve when they leave us but that shows just how an important part in our lives, they played. You are spot on with us needing them ...needing to be walked, go swimming or whatever,it made us get up and move. That has to be a real plus point for anyone with breathing illnesses? I had a golden lab from when I was 8 and he reached a fine age of 17yrs before he went up to "animal heaven"--what I'd give to have him now. However,my sob rescued a dog called Hazel who's half american ridgeback and half staffie and she's a fine figure of a bitch(!!)and is " hazel" in colour, hence her name.

Sorry for going on at length but our animals are like our children and we just love to talk about them.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your young cat. Everyone has a special pet in their lives and I lost my 9 year old cat Suzie back in '89. That was from cancer too. She had gingervitis and also wasn't eating much so I took her to the vets. They gave her a sedative to treat her and she died. The vet said the cancer would have killed her in a few months anyway. She was a beautiful little black and white cat full of character and very affectionate. x

Great idea. I’ve been using the “ Breethe” Ap for guided meditation for headaches, anxiety, sleeping, and some breathing exercises. They have mindfulness meditations to start the day with a purpose. I might have to start trying one before work!
