Bilateral ECT & DBS

I have major depressive disorder and anxiety, and I’ve had nearly 90 ECT treatments since 2012 and I just increased my treatments to bilateral last week. I feel like I cannot comprehend simple information anymore. I’m currently rereading a book and I just really don’t know what I’m reading and I feel so empty. I’m considering joining a clinical trial for deep brain stimulation so I can stop the ECT and hopefully regain my short term memories, but the idea of non-FDA approved brain surgery terrifies the hell out of me. I feel so hopeless otherwise, and just generally not like myself anymore. Has anyone had DBS, or ECT that they noticed mild personality and comprehension changes with? It helps my symptoms otherwise, but it feels like such a high cost to feel better.

It’s a such a difficult decision you’re facing, seeking information is a sensible thing to do.
