Hi. My name is Julie and I’ve had anxiety and panic attacks for over 30 years, I’ve had control over them for the past 10 years but within the last month or so they have been hitting me pretty hard!

What has changed these past few months in your life?

My siblings and I have had to move my parents out of their house and into a independent care facility and my Mom is laying a lot of guilt on all of us. It has been a huge battle and I realize this is what is probably triggering them but I just want my brain to get back to where it was before, I used to drive all over town with no problem now I can’t go a mile without feeling anxious...

By anxiety do you mean panic symptoms? Your brain hasn’t changed. You are resorting back to old ways because the guilt you feel has you second guessing yourself. Subconsciously you feel it is wrong to put your parents in a independent facility so now your mind is questioning what else you might have done wrong? I don’t know I am only guessing.

Yes, panic attack’s, especially while driving, I feel like the muscles in my throat are closing up, I know their not but my brain thinks so, I carry water with me but that doesn’t really help...

I was agoraphobic for 14 years. So I understand panic attacks. Is the throat tightness only when you drive?

I used to be agoraphobic and I got myself out of it and before all this has come back, I hated staying at home, I was always on the go. The throat tightness is mostly when I’m driving as this is the symptom that occurred when my attacks resurfaced. I was driving down the freeway and boom, it hit me like a brick!!

I overcame my agoraphobia myself as well. Congratulations. Are you able to recall any of the old technics you used to overcome it the first time?

Good for you, I know how hard that can be 😊 I have thought of what I did to over come them before and the big step was to quit drinking and I’ve been sober for 12 years, I used to self medicate with alcohol ( Very Bad Idea) I’m trying really hard to not let all this take over my life again. It does help to know I’m not alone out here and this is the reason I joined here tonight.

Congratulations on your sobriety. A lot of people with anxiety self medicate. I was agoraphobic from age sixteen till I was thirty. My parents would not tolerate a dead beat son sitting home drinking on their dime. So I don’t drink. I can understand why people do if they suffer with anxiety. It’s not fun. I have to get to sleep it is 3:14 in the morning.

Yeah, it was getting late here too, so off to bed I went. I found that the alcohol was a temporary fix and the next day made my anxiety 10x worse so I knew I needed to do something so I just quit and haven't picked up a drink since.

I read one of your posts about taking care of your parents, sounds kind of similar to what I am going through right now. So if you'd like to talk about that too, I can relate.

Hi Jules, the same happened to me and ever since I started taking my organic supplements on my page it has calmed down my symptoms. You may want to try it out ! Always don’t forget to pray ! It’s a scary feeling I know . It happens to me when I’m eating at times or whenever my body feels anxious :/
