Trying to end my depression rut.

I have been in a depression rut for the last three years. I have recently challenged myself to get help for myself and if not for myself for the ones I love. I just started taking medication, the first month it started work completely and I felt like my life was back and I was moving ahead. Unfortunately I thought once I was back to normal I did not need the pills and now I'm back to square one. (Just started my pills again today.) Has anyone on here been able to break the cycle of the rut ? And if so, how?

Thank you.

In time you will be able to break the cycle of the rut. One month was just the tip of the iceberg. The medication needs time to build up in your system as well as you finding other methods in dealing with your depression/anxiety. I was on medication for a long time before coming off it. So yes it can be done but not too soon. Your doctor/therapist will be the best judge of that. Meanwhile since you started on medication again, I hope you are in therapy as well as looking for some alternate methods of dealing with your depression so that when you do come off the meds one day, you will have something to fall back on. xx

You should never alter your dose of a prescription without your doctor's approval. The med worked, and that's great. But you may have to continue taking it for a long time. Let your doctor decide those things.

Maybe you don't like the idea of taking pills, but would you prefer feeling depressed and anxious without them? People like us need medication to feel well, just like diabetics need insulin. Just be thankful that the med exists, and you can now live a normal life.

Hiya yes, I tried stopping meds, and it takes a month for them to work, needless to say it takes a month to stop working. Most people on antidepressants will be on them for life, imagine if you had high blood pressure, and a tablet a day controls it, you wouldn't stop them.

All I can think if you really want to stop them, ask dr like if u on 10mg reduce to 5 and so on. If it was me, I wouldn't worry about meds, I would think it great you have something to help you, and end your depression X

If I were you I would take the medication for a while because it sounds like you will need it, don't just stop because you feel better after a month it doesn't work that way, you were deppress for three years that's a long time and talk to your doctor before stopping your medication, I wean myself on my medication and felt better for about 2 and my anxiety came back stronger than before and I'm starting all over again 😞
