In fact I am not writing for myself but for my father .He is 65 years old and he had a long time that he can' t sleep during the night, 5 months. When I say he can' t sleep, I mean if he is lucky enaugh, he can sleep one hour at night. And now he is feeling really tired, he can' t go out for a walk. The doctor have him mirtazepine, but is not warking, 30 and 45 mg.And he was taking Lexatonil ( benzodiazepane) as well. This I didn' t know, beacuse we don' t live in same cautries.I am very worried about him.And with te doctor he is felling helpless, in my cauntry the Helath Care is really poor.

If you are looking for medication substitute, temazepam is good and ambien is also; however, some people have been known to walk, cook, and even drive after taking ambien while asleep. Temazepam is better choice, Best wishes for your father's sleep.

Is the medication just for sleeping? I'm 63 and read an article in a magazine the as we age insomnia becomes more of a problem...we lose melintoin.

It said to take a combination of Melintoin 10gm/Magnesim 2-250gm. Works for me. Give it a chance to work, don't give up.

Hope your father gets better

I get it he's living on a pension. I retired over year ago. I had been having sleeping issues also. It got real bad for me. But that's what I've been using to help. Try it and see what happens. Nothing to lose. Also dealing with my anxeity worrying about my future. Where will I end up? My money is going fast. Looking to find a job. Retirement isn't what I thought it would be. I feel very vulnerable my safety net is gone. I had to leave because of my anxeity. I was missing a lot of work to where I was close to getting fired? So I got out before that happened.

Hello, it's not a hormone, but a vitamin. melitoin is something our body already produces. Just that when we get older the body produces less if it. I take 10g (he could need more? Cause he's a man)? 2 magnesium 250g both taken in the evening only, like 2 or 3 hours before bedtime. Give it time to work. Let me know if it works for him? Take care

Hi Eljana, It could be a stress or anxiety from the retirement. Those two disorders may cause a chronic insomnia. It is a big shift between an active and resting life . Try to encourage him for a part time work or doing some voluntary jobs once or twice a week.

Walking in the morning and getting exposed to the daylight may increase Serotonin in which it turns into natural Melatonin at night. Melatonin is a natural sleeping hormone that our brain makes it when it gets dark in the evening. Try to reduce bright light (bleu light) at his home and dim it especially before bed time. He may take some Melatonin supplements or valerian root those are natural stuffs , better than pharmaceutical drugs. Before your process ask a Dr or a pharmacist before he takes those supplements, especially if he takes some drugs ( anti depressants...).

Good luck
