Hi, this is my first post and just wanted to tell my story! I was diagnosed with moderate anxiety a few months ago by my doctor after having a breakdown that caused me to completely shut down and not understand why it was happening or what was wrong. My doctor prescribed me an antidepressant and I immediately started to feel normal and back to myself again. My boyfriend was my rock during this time and basically put his life on hold to do whatever he could to help me. Slowly I noticed the same issues creeping back up on me. I thought that time would help, but I did not realize how bad it had gotten until the other night when my boyfriend told me that he doesn't know what to do anymore to help me and that he feels like he doesn't make me happy anymore. This completely broke my heart because he is the love of my life and I have not even stopped to consider how this has been affecting him. It made me reconsider things and I have decided to go back to the doctor to get my meds adjusted correctly and have joined this group for additional support! Would love to hear you guys' feedback and stories as well :)

Hello! I'm sorry to hear that you're just starting your journey but maybe the fact that you've possibly caught it early is reason to celebrate. I've had anxiety as long as I can remember but it only got worse as I aged. Worry not, it only happened to me because I tried to tell myself and the world that "I'm fine" when, on the inside, I was screaming for help. Here are some of the most important things I've learned in my journey. 1) None of what you are thinking or feeling is your fault. 2) You are safe. 3) This is not a "forever" disease and you will heal 4) take time to forgive yourself 5) take time to thank yourself 6) you are stronger than you could possibly imagine.

I wish you the best of luck along the way and if you ever need advice, I may be young but I've already had decades of experience dealing with this junk. You are going to be just fine. :)

This place is great. Any time I feel frustrated with my anxiety, I stop by here. It really helps to know that we're not alone and that there is always someone out there willing to listen. :)

You've got this.

20 yrs for me anxiety and depression is a part of my life. My husband has always been there for me - but never truly understanding what happens to my mind and body. After all this time and knowing what he knows about my condition-he still sometimes gets angry and says snap out of it! ( wouldn't that be nice) What we feel is real and scary. People that have this are strong and fighters . You have to be to withstand the symptoms. Reaching out to others and talking about your symptoms is the best thing you can do . Getting help from a therapist or taking meds is also a big help. Our mind for a short time sometimes feels like it can't be trusted. So we need help - but only and (I can't stress this enough) only from people that can be positive and helpful. sometimes words make a huge difference. Good luck . I'm here if you want to talk😁

Hi! I am new here as well. I am in the midst of a med change as well as beginning therapy. I have heard from multiple medical professionals to join a site such as this one. I had never considered going through with it, but I am hoping that this site will bring me closer to those who are going through something similar. I find myself wishing I had more people to talk to, because it can become overwhelming only speaking to my cat for days at a time. I hope this brings you what you are looking for! :)

You can always talk to me! I hope your therapy goes well, I’m also considering that! Thank you for your support!

I have only just begun it, so I have not seen much come out of it, but I am hoping that will change in the future. Thank you for yours as well!

Can I ask a question that I apologize for, for not knowing what the answer might be. But do you know why your doctor prescribed you an antidepressant if you had anxiety?

in reply to Regina48

Good point Regina. I think often GPs don't really appreciate the difference. Every case is different and unique and what works for one person may not necessarily work for another.

Mollyann - as the site shows some many people suffer from anxiety related issues and it is great that there is an online community to support people who are 'new' to this, because I think the fear of not knowing/understanding what is happening is, for both the sufferer and their loved ones, one of the hardest aspects. At least if you are provided with some knowledge up front, you are better equipped to cope and navigate your way through. Take care,

Hi Mollyann123,

Glad you found this site.

Keep remembering that this won’t last forever. It’s tough when our significant others don’t know what to do, and sometimes they feel like they are the cause. It’s so hard to try and explain to them what we are going through because we really don’t understand ourselves.

I am actually feeling much better now. I hope I can bring some encouragement to you in believing that you can beat this, and feel good again.

This is a great site to talk when you feel you need understanding.

Wishing healing and happiness for you..
