I've been doing nothing but watching TV and mindless stuff online. This is day five. I'm afraid I'm going to get fired from my job. I have anxiety and depression and have negative thoughts I can't seem to let go of. I've been dealing with this for 30 years. This is a really low time. Help please

Thank you, yes I'm on meds and I've been to many doctors over the years. I have health anxiety that stems from all the panic attacks I get. I'll check the link. Thanks

why are you afraid that you will be fired, are you a temp or with an agency?

No, not with any agency. I've only been at this job for a little over four months. I don't have a doctor note. I have called in each day, which has been victories for me. I've lost other jobs in the past because of missing work.

keep yourself right with work if you can, get a line if you need to. don't be afraid to try to protect the long-term whilst you are working on your anxiety. you know that you can climb out of this, you've done it before. what kinds of fear trigger your panic?

I have spent many years doing this but talking to a good psychologist helps. U need to stop blowing things out of proportion for yourself because they stop you from acting & action gets results. 5 days is nothing to prove an employees unproducticeness, I have fired employees after observing their attitudes over months and years.

Find out what body sensations r attached to these feelings and be aware next time they hit you.

Immediately drink water in sips not gulps and slow down your thoughts, speech and heart rate if you can. Your gonna be fine fellow survivor!

Thanks for your reply. Logically what you write is accurate. I've been with many therapists, a few I've had success with. Now they seem to all make me feel like I don't know what I'm talking about, or worse they don't seem to recall what we talked about the previous session. Cheers to you, Fellow Survivor, you rock!!!

Well yeah I get it they have many patients so they won’t remember each case distinctly even with written notes. So here is what helped me. I took the cognitive notes (ones I quoted above) and pasted them on my wardrobe you can refer to what body sensations you have when you get angry and keep seeing that everyday so next time you feel say hungry you know that might or certainly lead to anger and thus u stop everything and go eat something.

I also kept a straw water bottle like a child’s soppy cup filled with 1 liter (1000ml) within arms reach even while working at home. That way every time I felt my head racing between thoughts i’d take 3 sips and that usually helped calm me down.

But my most endearing ha it that has helped us writing a diary immediately after the feelings have passed, these dates in the form of phone notes but once written the effort itself cleanses me. Hope this helps.

I hope you do not do this while you are on the job. I have also found ( and I am not in the high tech world) that staying online adds to some depression. I have been dealing with these and other issues for years as well. What kind of work do you do?

The fear you have of possibly getting fired, is that because you are missing work?

The job fear could be escalating your panic.

Or is the panic making you think you are possibly going to get fired?
