What sleep meds combo works?

I have horrible insomnia . It's pretty life controlling without some sort of medication. This is my first night taking amitriptyline 20mg and also ambien 6.25 extended release. Really hoping this works.

I too can't sleep. horrendous! I'm not taking meds at all. I decided two weeks ago to completely remove caffeine and alcohol from my life, more caffeine intake than alcohol, I have felt worse than ever!

Best of luck getting some sleep . Last time I elimated caffeine , it didn't make any difference with me sleeping at night . And I don't drink anyway because I take Prozac 20mg and don't want the alchol to interact with it . I think it's so frustrating because I am exhausted at night , I just can't get my mind to doze off and fall asleep.

Do not know your age or your living habits but the elimination of computer and TV screens and a change from ambien helps me. The substitution of ambien for another sleep aide has to with impacting learning past a certain age, ambien can cause some mental facility issues., I do not drink or eat anything with caffeine. Accidentally had a diet coke that had caffeine after 8 pm and had difficulty sleeping. Couldn't determine why until I remembered the coke.

Have had a severe sleeping problem for years. Will go 2.5 nights without sleep, then guess body is so tired, I can sleep without med. My MD pointed out that insomnia is very common in the US. No fun. Because I have nightmares when I do sleep, I take a med to help control that.

I have insomnia also. Was taking ambien 10mg, but ran out. I haven’t got medical insurance, so I’ll have to wait to see the Dr. again until I can afford it. Sometimes I’ll drink NyQuil to try and sleep. Sometimes it helps, and sometimes it doesn’t.
