Phenibut. Good or bad idea?

So far from what I've read about this substance, the downsides seem to be far outweighed by the good sides to using it. It's a legal substance which seems like it's too good to be true as from the accounts I've read online and the videos on youtube have all been positive with little negative sides.

So does anyone here have any experience with taking it?

I've ordered some for myself, because I have to try something to improve my life. Whatever little boost I need that helps me get back out there in the world. I plan on taking one 250mg dose and see how that makes me feel and then go from there being careful not to become addicted or dependant.

Are you on any medication or have been on any previously?

in reply to

Yes. I've been on antidepressants for over 10 years now and they don't make me any less anxious when I'm in public or around anyone else.

I'm on Venlafaxine 37.5mg twice daily.

Ok. I can't help.. I havent had experience in taking medication...I refuse to ever take anything to mess with my brain..it's bad enough as it is..good luck there will be others that may help

Hi. Sounds like wonder drug. My concern is taking this with benzo's or other meds, ie anti-depressants.

I would talk with your prescribing GP first. If he thinks it's okay, then go for it. I personally wouldn't touch it without GP/Pharmacist approval first.

Best wishes ☺

I have a feeling that the GP wouldn't recommend it. However, I've been on antidepressants for over 10 years and I'm still depressed and anxious.

At this point I'm willing to try almost anything to help me get on with my life. Even if that means going against what the GP says, because listening to them hasn't got me very far in the past decade. I'm not dead, but I'm not exactly alive either.

No, I don't think a GP would recommend it Eagle. I feel the same as you. I would also be willing to try it however I KNOW that it should not be used with anti-depressants.

Can't remember exactly where I read it, but there is a serious problem with the GABA and the binding of it to receptors. Maannnn, I wish I could remember where/when/what exactly I read so that I could pass it on to you.

I would like to suggest that you wean off your anti-depressants first and then perhaps give it a try.

Research it copiously first and then see how you feel about taking it. CYA.

Thanks Lizbett I'll look into it more.

It would be awesome if you could find where you read about it. I've been looking and can only find forum posts and reddit posts about people who are for the most part inconclusive.

I'm reading a book at the moment called "Undoing Perpetual Stress: The Missing Connection Between Depression, Anxiety and 21st Century Illness". I find it very helpful. I also use the headspace app and I'm taking CBD oil.

phenibut is addictive. Tianeptine is probably the best substitute for Phenibut because it has anxiolytic properties without directly affecting the GABA system. Get advise from your doctor.

OK thanks. I'll look into that.

Have you heard about biofeedback? There is growing research supporting biofeedback. Effectiveness of treatment varies by the condition treated. Biofeedback can help to relieve:

Anxiety or PTSD

Depression

ADD and ADHD

Insomnia

Pain

Google it.

Mayte, I agree, Biofeedback is a great method to use for anxiety and pain. Not many mention it anymore but it can be a good alternative to meds.

Phenibut is essentially GABA that can cross the blood brain barrier. It is actually prescribed in Russia as an anxiolytic drug.

Phenibut can become very addictive and is never to be used on a daily basis. It does work very well for occasional anxiety attacks but can become very addictive very quickly. If you have an addictive personality then be careful. Space out your usage. No more than 2 days in a row.

250mg is a good starting point. I didn't feel much effect until around d 500mg the first time. Now 200mg works for me and I take it VERY rarely.

Tianeptine sodium can be very addictive and well but is a very different drug similar to tricyclic antidepressants. But it also apparently acts on the opioid receptors, so it can become very addictive and it has a very short half-life so it doesn't last very long. Exercise the same sort of caution with tianeptine if you do try it.
