Inability to control this anxiety

I'm new to this so bare with me. First at all, I am a college student but a few months ago I got diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. This disorder has been eating me alive in ways that I didn't think were possible. According to my psychologist, the disorder comes from years ago but mostly from my parents' situation. My parents haven't had a healthy relationship since I have memory but when I started college, things just got bad (I stay home for school) to the point that it hit me hard once they decided to separate and start their divorce. I went from being a great student with A's to the student with nothing but C's and a couple of failing grades and well this is hitting me hard today as med school seems nearly impossible to achieve. I am trying to find ways to keep myself fighting this and show that I am tougher but I can't at times so I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas on how to cope with the anxiety. Anything will be much appreciated, thanks!

I have looked into it but with ROTC, this sort of medication will automatically disqualify me and also my psychologist said that she thinks I would be better off without it. Such is life.

I could not function, it was hard to concentrate and sleep, I had to take meds, the meds works wonders for anxiety, it will calm you down.

I will see what I can do about it. I have requested placing in students disabilities as requested by my dr. I think this will help me get some peace but this is literally the worst thing ever.

I have been doing well with just therapy but there are days where it knocks me out daily. I will definitely will see if I can get a waiver.

DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) works wonders, if you can find classes through a psychologist or counselor. Mindfulness, which is one of the things taught in these classes, can be learned on your own. There are plenty of resources. Meditation is great too. It takes practice and finding the right type of meditation for you but it can help a lot. I like guided meditations, like mindfulness meditations.

Of course, meds will help as well, you just have to find the right one.

Hello - google steven ilardi natural antidepressants. There is a great lecture on you tube it's 1.5 hrs long. He is a scientist his opinions based on proven methods to great balance back through lifestyle choices. If you look at that, do what's needed and get counseling/ therapy it may be enough to manage your anxiety. Try some hypnotherapy cds for deep relaxation may get something off you tube. Very importantly talk about your feelings to someone who actually listens without judgement. Just being heard helps.

You can get through this - but always in life have plan b - think now what you will do if med school not an option. Not to worry but prepare. It's far better to expect the best but plan for the worst. Worry is a tool to get you acting in more healthy helpful ways. Use it. When you worry actually say out loud (if you can) I am worried about x. If x happens which I do not expect it to, I will do y and z to resolve it. If x is unavoidable I will accept that and learn from it.

Try yoga, tai chi, go vegan do whatever it takes to give Your body the strength to fight stress healthily.

Most of all be kind to yourself. Your anxiety is just your body telling you your emotional health needs better care.
