Hello! My son has anxiety/depression and feels I don't know much about his condition. What are some good books related to anxiety and depression? At times I feel I know plenty, but at the same time I'm at a loss. I feel I don't know the right words to offer the best support, yet as a parent I cannot retreat.
Any titles, tips, advice, direction would be much appreciated. I have found that when I attempt to discuss how he's doing or ask, he gets angry. If I give him space he can stay in his room and sleep all day.

There is a self help program called Attacking Anxiety and Depression. It is a book, work book and some audio cds. It helped me a ton. You can order the program off of Amazon.
Hi my daughter is in college and suffered anxiety panic attacks ... she has social anxiety so it was difficult in college and the pressure and there wasn't a lot of support for her there really .....
I bought books on anxiety from Amazon online. There some good ones. I also suggested she see the doctor, but as you say they get angry ! In the end her boyfriends mother persuaded her. She went and he gave her beta blockers, she wasn't happy with them. Then I suggested Atarax antihistamine to help with the anxiety. However she didn't like them either ! Then she went back and he gave her citralapam antidepressant, and helps with anxiety but she want take them either. She is 18 and it's difficult to speak to the doctor on her behalf.
Now she just fights it using techniques learnt from internet on breathing etc.
I got so worried it set off my anxiety. And am st present battling through my own too quietly. It's a horrible thing.
The more you push them the more they back off, just keep and eye on him. I bought the books and left them around to read. Perhaps he may pick one up and read it. Good luck to you and your son. Please keep in touch on here. It's a great support. Xx
