A little Help please?

Hi all hope your doing well and better. I'm a 37 year old male and

I have a question, hopefully someone can shine some light on this subject. for the last week I've lost Unintended Weight, by 5kg In just five days, my first research on this matter that I did all pointed to Pancreatic cancer! But after seeing my GP and had blood tests done it all came back OK! I was happy at first but from my research online about PC it says That it's usually possible that blood tests and X-Rays can come back with no symptoms, so I addressed this to my GP and he said I'm being very anxious and this could be a Cause of Anxiety.

so my question is... Has anyone with Anxiety ever lost this amount of Unintended Weight Loss before? This could help me and i would be grateful for any response.

sorry for the long post, thought to be best to explain more and hopefully I could get a few answers. As this is really effecting me Mentally and physically and even my family.

many thanks wishing you all the very best.

Yes you can lose weight due to anxiety. I went from 200 to 150 in a month several years ago. They ran every test possible trying to figure out what was wrong. Everything came back clean. There only explanation was my anxiety was thru the roof. Have you been experiencing high anxiety lately?

Thanks Jade1992.. I'm absolutely shocked how much weight you've lost and I wouldn't In a million years think that could be possible with Anxiety. I'm sorry to hear that it happened to you and that must of been scary experience to go through. Hope did you manage it?

But Yes I have experienced some Anxiety but not sure if it was classified as High though, I'm not sure what high Anxiety is and how it can affect someone to be honest with you.

I really appreciate you replying to my post it has given me something to think about and put my mind at ease a bit. Something I'll be mentioned to my GP

many thanks again

There are both physical and mental effects of anxiety. Physical could be but not limited to: weight loss or gain, bad chest pains, not being able to breathe, being scared to be around people, being scared to be alone, heavy sweating. Mental effects can be but not limited to: thoughts that scare you, always feeling or thinking negative thoughts. These are only a few can I think of or at least some of the things I personally have experienced so you may or may not have any of these everyone is different. I hope some of these will help.

Corvin1 profile image
Corvin1 in reply to Jade1992

that's helped, thank you again..

I do think a lot of negative thoughts especially about my health, for example... Before the last four weeks I would never be someone that would be going to the GP/Hospital unless it was absolutely the need for it, which In my case it was. First thing was my chest pains that I had, went into hospital spent 7 hours there got blood and X-Ray done all came back clear no signed of heart problems of any kind.

after being sent home the pain persisted and I felt like I was having a heart attack, went to my GP he did a quick check over me and told me that I've got Costochondritis an inflammation of the cartilage between my breastplate and ribs. I thought ok at least I know now.

two weeks later I developed something called Larioceles in the scrotum which became very uncomfortable for me, that's when I believe I started to become Anxious, and after going back to the GP and hospital again for an ultrasound and physical examinations and being conformed that I have Lariococeles I'm both side, I started googling about the side effects of it, not really life threatening but theres a chance I can't have anymore kids which is something I want. One week later which is two weeks ago today, I started feeling shooting pains in my lower abdomen and it felt like an Inguinal hernia, from which I've had one years ago and had it repaired. I thought it came back again so once again I went back to my GP they checked it over and found the area to be very sensitive, so I've been given a hospital appointment to see a hernia specialist for August. So I thought nothing more of it. Until last Sunday I weight myself that mid morning being at 94kg which was one KG more then usual but I thought that's because I haven't been to the gym this month. But Monday morning I saw a change that I was loosing weight I lost about 3lbs, I thought that was odd, but went into work not thinking anything of it, until Wednesday when I lost 7lbs it scared me and i was right back at the GP, so the sent me to the hospital for blood test's from it came back all clear. But I kept on loosing weight even though I've been eating but not gaining weight.

I'm not going to lie it has scared me and I know it hasn't helped me by checking up my symptoms online and reading up about Pancreatic cancer that has put me on edge, and this has taken a big effect on my life, I have lost some appetite and I'm very fatigued and worrying a lot.

omg... I'm so sorry for rumbling on like this I didn't even realise.

many thanks and again I apologise for this. Its just i feel no one else understands.

but I'll leave you be and thank you again.

kind regards

Luis

First i would like say im sorry that you may have the chance of not having any more kids. I know that doesn't help your situation out. Have you figured out what is triggering you panic attacks? I mean what is it that your doing when you developing your symptoms? Is it the same every time or it is it different? I'm not a doctor by any means, but have been living with anxiety for a long time. Over time I have come to realize what is triggering my attacks and try to avoid things that causes them. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. Have you ever been diagnosed with ptsd? As for the rambling on you are just fine. I know it helps to calm some people down. It does me sometimes. I also know it helps to found someone to actually listen to what you are going thru. I hope that my experiences help in your situation. Just know I am here to listen.

hi Jade,

thanks for being understanding and for you sharing your views.

First I'll start by saying that I don't or ever PTSD.

my symptoms always start with Fear of my health, not seeing my kid grown up and most of all Death, everytime I feel something like, nausea, dizziness and shooting pains in the abdomen my mind starts to over think things and I keep Googling everything now all my symptoms even if its a small thing! All I'm seeing and reading is Negative stuff that scares me. And also loosing all this weight my friends and family see it and I'm eating but not putting anything on and that scares the hell out of me. I'm someone that used to hit the gym three to four times a week and tried eating well... But now this has happened it feels like it was for nothing.

I've missed two days of work, loss of Appetite, dry mouth I'm always thirsty and urinating.... Sorry to share this.

got a dry cough can't get rid off and I have a sleeping disorder, I'm constant on the edge not knowing where to.turn to. I feel like screaming for someone to.help Me. And now all.this effecting my family.

plus I've also learned two days ago that my family suffer from Cancer. So that hasn't helped at all.

so much drama I know right.

I'm here to don't be a stranger and thanks again.

Ok so that's good that you don't have ptsd. Trust me it's not something you want combined with anxiety. I should know. Have you ever tried keeping a journal rather than looking up everything? Just write down what you are going thru regardless of it makes sense or not. That way when you go to see doctor you can go back and tell home what your experiencing rather than trying to look it up and causing more anxiety. It may take a while to change from looking it up to writing it down, so don't be hard on yourself.

Corvin1 profile image
Corvin1 in reply to Jade1992

Morning Jade

yes I've started writing down, things like what I'm eating, my weight record, and stools lol

that's it. But I will start to from writing about how I'm feeling.

got a GP appointment later this afternoon, i will address it all to him. Hopefully see what he says.

hi jade hope your well, I have a quick question. From all that weight you've lost, how did you feel, did you experience any other symptoms?

because I can't sleep and every test done at the hospital came back all clear. Even my GP is confused so he has referred me to have a Ultrasound Scan to be done.

many thanks

When I lost all that weight I had so much excess energy to the point where I couldn't sit still and couldn't sleep. I always had to be doing something, but at same time I was terrified of leave g the house. It's worse now. When I go shopping and get to checkout and there are a lot of people there I will leave the basket and leave. I can't handle being around too many people it scares me to death. I just wish I could understand why.

Sorry to hear you are going through such add stress. In general it feels so horrible. I went from 195 to 145. But I knew it was stress because I wasn't eating and didn't want to eat. I now I have to stay away from the internet because it feeds my fears which makes me anxious and then I start losing my appetite. I hope this helps.

If you are afraid something might be wrong, go directly to your doctor. Don't look up things online because in my experience just breathing means something's wrong with you. It's good to pay attention to your body and what it's telling you. If you haven't been sleeping, are stressed, feel anxious all the time, all of those will make you lose weight. Not to mention normal things like a change in your diet, sessional changes, weather, etc. I think you are going to be okay. If you continually loss an amount of constant weight for several months and you aren't trying to that's when I would be concerned. But weight fluctuations are pretty normal. I hope this helps.

thank you for your response really appreciate it and helpful.

your right I should stop reading online it does keep me on edge.

really appreciate it thanks.

all the best

I don't recall me losing so much within 5 days. I never kept track of how much I was losing in a day or losing in general. But I did lose a few pounds prior to finding out that I have depression and anxiety. I'm told it's normal. After some time I gained some of my weight back.

If you must look things up online, read up on the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Weight gain/loss is very common, as well as insomnia, mood swings etc...

I, too, have lost weight due to my anxiety. I don't have much of an appetite because of the anxiety. It's not unusual at all. At times, I have to force myself to eat. Anxiety has many symptoms and this is a common one. You might want to address the anxiety in a variety of ways: cognitive behaviour therapy, support groups, self-help websites, counselling, etc. Wishing you all the best.

hello! let me ease your mind on it being pancreatic cancer. last summer i was in a bad spell of anxiety and depression. i lost 17 pounds in a single week and dropped to the underweight mark for my age. i dropped to nearly 97 lbs, the unhealthy mark was 104 and below. ease your mind some, it's most likely just anxiety. try eating healthy foods and try cutting down on sugar and junk foods. eat lots of protein to help and give you good energy

Corvin1 profile image
Corvin1 in reply to sydxoxo

thanks SDYxoxo wow that's insane so sorry to hear that, I don't understand how it's physical impossible to loose weight with a thing as Anxiety. How did you manage it?

it's so scary and I'm sorry to hear that you've gone through that ordeal but how are you now?

thank you for your response to my post it means a lot I really appreciate it.

the amount of times I've been to the hospital and GP they haven't diagnosed me with Anxiety really not for certain.

so far in one week I went from being 94kg to 87kg, my family have seen a big difference in me and that has made it more frightening so.

well thanks again, and I wish you all the very best.

don't be a stranger.

kind regards

Sure, unintended weight loss could be a MULTITUDE of reasons which is too long to go into BUT these are the most common.

Please don't jump into conclusions as this will cause more anxiety & MORE weight loss. U have taken your first intelligent step so I hope this has reassured u & I am sure the Dr. has extended more reasons as to why BUT since u make NO MENTION.........here are some.

1. Diabetes hunger & excessive thirst & increase urinary output 2. Hyperthyroidism with this u will have sleepless nites & r feeling agitated , increase appetite & sweating complaining of being hot .

When my husband suddenly died, I lost 7 lbs in 7 days !! This is the most common of reasons . change of career, house , partner .........I PUT ON 5 lbs in 10 days when I lost my cat !! We are all different & some put on, some loose due to sudden change of enviroment or personal situation ..Weather can be a reason too ..........Change of bowel habit? Observe your stools for blood & consistency ......If u continue to loose weight, u need to go back to your GP & to be referred to a hosp. Good luck . J

Thank you for that, that was extremely helpful and I appreciate it big time.

you've pointed out some of the symptoms that I've been going In detail.

I'm sorry for your loss you have my deepest condolences.

but again thank you.

have a great day.

Hi Corvin.........I AM MOST surprised that your GP hasn't asked u more about your other symptoms which u said I pointed them out . That was why I've put in more details, it would have been easier that u put the symptoms u've been complaining of TO me, instead of me doing it. I could end up writing a book for the reasons of weight loss . Of cause Cancer is one of the main reasons & your age group is also relevant & I don't know yours hence I'm just rambling on in the dark!!, If I were u, I'd go back to your GP & nurse & ask for a Dip Stick urine test ASAP or take a sample in as u are leaving & give it to the nurse . Don't forget to label it with Name DOB. That would be a first EASY test which will give u immediate results then they'll ask u to come in for a fasting blood test ( fast 6 hrs prior NOTHING to eat or drink EXCEPT for water )

No problem the deaths were 25 yrs ago so..........The other thing I must mention is that anorexia in men is also on the increase , so no longer a female condition .Any more questions or symptoms, just tell or ask me . J

Yes I have lost weight due to anxiety before. It messes with my appetite and I either don't eat or only eat very little. I have also done my own research of symptoms and scared myself by what I read and the dr told me it was my anxiety too...

Corvin1 profile image
Corvin1 in reply to Klu12

hi Klu

it is scary what you find and read online. Can I ask you how much weight did you loose in a week and what other symptoms did you have?

for example, I've lost 17 pounds in one week, I've got dry mouth always thirsty, I drink up to two litter's of water or more everyday, I do eat though but for some reason not putting any weight on.

thanks and don't be a stranger.

I didn't lose as much as you, maybe about 5 pounds or so but I also had chest pain and pains in my arms and legs. My dr gave me a script for an EKG to help put my mind at ease but it was very expensive so I didn't have it done. I don't want to scare you but did your Dr rule out diabetes?
