Psychiatrist /Therapist

My psychiatrist called me regarding my job loss. She was very concerned and wants to see me ASAP. Most likely she will change my meds because of my frequent crying spells and not being able to hold a job. I have an appointment to see her on Tuesday.

On another note, I saw a new therapist for the second time finally (This was my fourth therapist since November of 2015). Given the circumstances with my crying spells and job loss, she wants a higher level of care for me. She said that none of this is my fault and she wants my psychiatrist to perform a new psychiactric evaluation on me to figure out a more accurate diagnosis. The Therapist told me that I have been dealing with depression for years and it's a vicious cycle that needs to be broken asap, especially because it has been effecting my ability to hold a job due to my uncontrollable crying spells and other negative behaviors in the workplace. The therapist thinks that I need to find someone to see on a weekly basis that accepts my insurance, like a psychologist.

Now, I am back to square one as far as looking for another therapist goes. I called a bunch of psychologists and left messages. Hopefully, I will be able to get a hold of one soon.

Hi Kakee,

How refreshing that your psychiatrist actually called you. A medication review is an opportunity to work with the doctor to find a medication that is a better fit for you in the current circumstances.

I find it useful to take the list of current meds and those you have tried in the past to the appointment. I have included a useful link from Australia

When in your job, it is important to know that you should not suffer discrimination because of your health. Have you thought about asking for some "reasonable accomodations: in the workplace?

There are lots of resources around the topic. The best book I found was Working in The Dark by Dawn Fitter (see the online story about the book)

Sometimes you need more intensive work with a psychologist when times are tougher than usual.

All the best

Thanks for the information and for your advice/support in this matter, black cat 64013. I saw my psychiatrist yesterday. She truly cares about me and her other patients and she never rushes you. I am grateful to have her as my psychiatrist.

Hi Kakee,

You are most welcome. I am grateful too for my psychiatrist. I have put a recommendation in on RateMDs. We need to know the good ones! :-)

The therapist should be able to refer you to someone. Make sure you ask. I hope you can get some clearer answers. I think it helps healing if you know what you’re dealing with. Some meds can make you more sensitive as well. I hope you find the answers you need!
