A good therapist for you?

At my school they have free counseling. I've gone to two. I always hear how you have to find the right counselor/therapist for you. I don't really know what that means. I understand if I felt uncomfortable or didn't like them that would not be the counselor for me, but what makes a good one? The first one just had me talk and say "unhuh" a lot. The second one I liked better, she was younger and felt more as a friend. She asks what's going on, why have I come in (I don't go regularly), and what can she do to help. I never know what to the say for the latter. I feel like shit, I don't know what I need or want. Talking helps but I feel I need more, I just don't know what and don't know how to ask for it.

Do you have suggestions on how to find the counselor for you? Any suggestions on what should you ask of your counselor?

  • Hi it's difficult to give advice without knowing your age. It would be different if you were a minor or an adult. How old are you please?

  • What are you looking to get out of counseling? The counsellor should be able to talk to you about setting and meeting goals for feeling better and how you can work through your problems
