Is it normal for your therapist to start pressuring you into taking medications all of the sudden? I told her I was getting better dealing with things on my own and she agreed but still persists that I should consider medication.

Did she give you a reason? What's your diagnosis? If, for instance, it's something like bipolar I or II or GAD, medication is still a wise choice. At least that's how I see it. Some disorders just aren't going to be managed well without medication. And you still need knowledge and skills on how to handle them on your own because there will be times that the medication alone won't be enough to handle them.

I recommend you ask your therapist why she's pressuring you to take medication and get to her motivation. You may or may not agree with her but at least you may understand her better and you can talk to her about it. You've got nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

I was diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder. I get frustrated when my therapist tells me that it's ok to want to hold off on the medication if things are progressing but then turn around by the next session and suggest them again even though I explain that things are progressing in a positive way, at which they agree. The clinician that handles the medication also suggested that choosing to use medications is based on my judgement upon intake after hearing my story. So I am left to believe that my therapist is pressuring me into taking medication which as a result triggers my anxiety.

I don't know about your therapist but I will be honest with you, I think anyone who suffers from anything that is not normal should endeavour to get on medication to help get em back to normal.

life is hard and their are enough obstacles and challenges along the way to keep you entangled for the duration. To have to add something like GAD to it, in my opinion, can tend to make the experience even more overwhelming than it really ought to be.

I have GAD and you won't catch me without my meds anymore. I have learnt my lesson and won't give up medication unless for a more permanent cure. Also my meds don't make me anxious. Instead I feel empowered to take on whatever life throws at me now, thanks to the meds I am on.
