Greater support from parents and professionals in understanding just how long it takes to recover with tips for taking small steps

I could not agree more. The understanding that recovery from eating disorders takes a few behavioural changing techniquies and measuring against the BMI (which HCP's look at in a book!!!) I believe there is some computer wizz out there, somewhere, that can bring together this wonderful technology of 21st Century. The results would come from some blood tests, other health tests that could correlate into our own personal BMI chart based on our blood group, our height, muscle, heart rate, metabolic rate...... and on so that we are not under one universal umbrella.

When will this be noted that we are all so very different including our bodies!!!!

I believe the support will be greater in the future (guessing in about 20-30 years with this in place giving HCP's the support, knowledge and actually how to take small steps on our path to recovery) I have to say I am being positive in my thinking but this does not help those of us now wo are left in the dark, simply weighed weekly (if you are lucky enough to have an appointment weekly). However, there have been some super clever people out there and have compelled this site so we, the sufferers can help and support each other. To me, someone who has suffered long enough, this appears to be a fantastic opportunity, we just need to spread the word so we can try and reach out.

I have rambled on somewhat but, I hope I have tried to explain what is bubbling away in my head, this is very difficult at times, lol!!!

The small steps as Trustee asked about, I can only give info about what has helped me, like I say everyone is different and what works for one does not always work for another.

We reach a point where our brain does not make sense of 'the sense' and this is where we really need intensive help, but even if there is only a small bit of reality we can work on that. On the days I feel I am falling back into old habbits: I find writing down my thoughts because I see in black and white how quite wrong I can be, I find evidence (this cannot be done in one step because we may be blinded by our feeling) for and against. I go back to my diet plan (I make myself do this for as long as possible, until I feel I can trust myself not to cheat). I talk to my closest friends/family sometimes just to make myself reaslise that 'yes I DO matter'. This helps, I also find keeping a routine to my day (even if that sounds very boring) is even more helpful. I know when it is breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. The rest seems to fall into place with positivity, hope and love.... I have written a big chunk here so will be here if anyone would like me to write some more. Love x

Is there any help for people sufferering from anorexia who are older than 40 as all the info seems to be aimed at teenagers and younger people. Its as if only young people/ teenagers get anorexia. Also how to cope with relapses when you start to eat again then it all gets too much and you cut back again and begin to fear foods again.
