All the weight is round my middle!

crazycrossstitcher profile image

I've managed to gain 10kg over the last few months - having been anorexic for over 40 years - now heavier than I've been since age 18!!! However, I'm now really struggling as all the weight seems to be round my stomach and middle - is this normal and does it redistribute - can't do up my skirts round the middle yet my arms remain stick like!

This is very, very common and normal in early recovery. Years of under eating has taught your body that you are in an environment that experiences frequent famines. When you first start eating again, your body stores all the calories around your middle to protect your internal organs from the next famine. It takes time and regular, adequate food intake to convince your body that you are now in a land of plenty and it does not need to store extra around your middle. Once your body begins to trust you, the weight will start to distribute more evenly around the body. If you want more information you might want to read this article (tabithafarrar.com/2012/04/c... by ED recovery coach Tabitha Farrar, where she discusses this issue in-depth. I hope this help you a bit.
