NUT, OAT AND PROTEIN POWDER FREE SMOOTHIES

Hi I am really trying to recover I really need to gain weight.

I’ve found it’s easier for me to drink my calories but I can’t figure out what to drink or what to make to drink

I have ibs and a very sensitive stomach and become full very easily so I need suggestions for pre made or recipes of smoothies and shakes that don’t have anything that could irritate my stomach but has a lot of calories

Also I can’t have nuts oats or protein powders due to allergies

Don’t know if anyone can help me. Thank you

Have you tried using coconut milk as a base to your smoothies? I know some people who suffer from Ibs stay away from traditional dairy products. Coconut milk can be a really good alternative, especially if you use the canned variety (tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/p... and add a little water to loosen it. Seeing as you can’t have traditional high calorie smoothie boosters, I would highly suggest adding large handfuls of seeds such as sunflower or pumpkin, these will add texture along with calories. Also adding things like dried fruit can increase calories & because they are dried will be easier for your stomach to digest.

Instead of ice cream as a base try using dairy free, it won’t be as high in calories but it’s better than using an alternative milk such as soya which doesn’t contain much.

This Ben & Jerry’s (tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/p... )is a good option & you could even add squares of dark chocolate which also contains limited dairy but is still nutrient dense.

If you’re finding it hard due to your digestive issues, please consider seeing your GP who may be able to provide you with a supplement to add to your drinks.

Chocolate coconut Milkshake

250ml coconut milk (or whole milk if you can manage dairy with your ibs)

3 scoops chocolate ice cream (regular if you can do dairy)

2 handfuls of seeds - any you like

1 handful of chopped or desicated coconut

Banana smoothie

150ml pomegranate juice

125ml soya milk

1 large banana

, peeled and cut into chunks

30g tofu

1 tsp honey

1 tbsp flaked almond

ice cubes

Mint Oreo Milkshake

14 ounces full-fat coconut milk (1 can), room temperature

¾ cup baby spinach

½ cup fresh mint leaves, stems removed, plus a few extra for garnish

1-2 teaspoons peppermint extract (this will vary depending on the potency of the brand you use, so start with less and taste as you go)

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1½ cups non-dairy milk, chilled (I used cashew milk)

3 tablespoons pure maple syrup

4 Oreo cookies, chopped, plus additional for layering
