Do I have ED?

Hi. My name is Ell, I am 19 years old. Asian. I have been skinny my whole life except when i was a baby. As i grew older, i become more and more skinnier. But i am very worried now, I have been losing weight in the past few weeks. I don't know how much i lost but its obvious because everyone can see it even myself. I barely have appetite and i can go on a day without eating more than a bun. I really want to gain weight, but i can't make myself eat. Even if i do eat, i can't finish my plate and is already full after a few bites. I think i subconsciously am anorexic. Do i really have it?

Oh, and I'm anemic. I'm currently consuming tab ferrous fumarate and also vit folic acid. The doctor said it was to help me produce more red blood cells. But consuming these means i have to avoid dairy products. So i really don't know what else to eat to gain weight fast. I really love milk! 😭

HeyEll, I'm not a doctor but I don't feel it has to do with subconscious anorexia. My daughter is anorexic and with it I see it as a true conscious decision. I do know that the iron tabs you are on can cause decreased appetite as well as weight loss. I think it would be best that you run this by your doctor just to be sure there is no other medical issue going on. My best Ell. xx

Thank you for the kind reply. I hope your daughter is doing well 😊

I think you need to talk to your doctor - is he/she not concerned about your weight loss - if not - suggest you tell them about your loss of appetite - and how little you feel able to consume - given what you describe as a days meals it really is no surprise your anaemic - suggest you need a real good check out to find out exactly what is the problem.

Thank you for the suggestion. I don't really have a doctor that keep up with my health issues so they probably think I'm skinny because i just am. I did go to the doctor again when I went to the clinic to grab my meds, i told her i loss my appetite and she simply gave me vitamins to consume. Maybe the doctor just don't care 😂 and the last time i have check up is when i found out i have anaemia. I don't think they will know if i have ED because its all in the mind and they only check the body🙂 but still, thank you for the reply 😊

Hi there. I have ednos (eating disorder not otherwise specified). I lost 1/3 of my body weight in about six months when I forgot to eat due to depression. I have never managed to put all the weight back on again and that was 18 years ago! I want to put on weight and I hate being to thin but I can’t make myself eat enough of the right sort of foods.

You need to get some help before you end up in the kind of rut I’m in. Go back to your gp and if they can’t help ask for a referral to a dietician or something. It’s really important to maintain a healthy body weigh. My low weight has resulted in severe osteoporosis which makes for a pretty bleak future as I get older.

Good luck with a speedy recovery.

Thank you 😊 i hope you're doing well and will get better in the future. I think your first paragraph describe my weight loss and feelings very well. I used to be 48kg (already skinny) and in 1months, i loss 9kg (super skinny) due to not eating. I'm worried but i seem to have no solutions. Going to professional doctor is going to be expensive. I'm afraid i cannot afford that.
