No one will help

I finally went to the doctor on wednesday after my boyfriend got really upset with my habits. The doctor said that it sounds like I have an ED and that she was going to refer me to an ED clinic. Im really scared that they arent going to help me because my BMI is just over 18 even though I am underweight. If anyone has had ED help when there BMI is 'normal' could you tell me about it?

I was first referred to ED services 9 years ago at a bmi of 20. After that my weight did drop BUT I'm still with services now and my bmi is healthy again. Eating disorder services are trying to move away from weight being the marker for help. There are so many other things involved such as blood results, impact on life etc. People with eating disorders die at every weight and your weight does not determine how deserving you are of help xx

Thank you so much for replying! I hope this is the case for me xx

If your GP recognises you have an ED I am sure the service will too - just talk honestly about your feelings and habits around food and eating - they don't just look at weight any more - but the attitudes to body image and food - so keep that appointment - you are so lucky to be offered help - and don't let the ED persuade you that they won't take you seriously! Good luck.
