Hi guys. I was just wondering how anybody else 'came out' about there ED and how they went about seeking help.

I started with a trip to the GP - and had to really take a stand to get referral to a specialist ED centre - not just a mental health unit - but it was the start of getting some support - dietary as well as counselling - and regular appointments to keep me "monitored" - I also had support from an ABC befriender which really helped - visit the ABC website there's loads of great info which may point you in the right direction. I also talked to my parents, friends and they were amazingly supportive - they didn't understand - but they did their best to help me. Good luck - gasp all the help you can get - recovery is not an easy battle - and not one to be tackled alone.

Thanks for replying! Did you just tell the GP how you'd been behaving and how you felt?

Yes - I was as open as possible - it was really hard to face up to all the "ED habits" etc I had - and to admit this to someone was really hard - but it is the only way I have found over the years (have changed GP many times due to house moves) that I got the support and help I needed and so that I wasn't fobbed off or put on another set of tablets. Many GPs are now more informed - so I hope this is the case for you.
