Starting slowly getting off sugar.

I have decided to get off sugar slowly. I know I cannot do it all at once. I picked pop to start off with. This my 3rd day and I am starting to feel the withdraws. I hope it will not last long. I was wondering how long I have to go through to feel better. Or this is just the beginning of my journey in getting off the sugar. Would love to hear from you.

I'm not the right one to listen to when it comes to how to get rid of a suger addiction, but a friend of my had big problem with suger. When she was as biggest, she had a BMI at 39. As fast as she ate as little as a sandwish, she couldn't stop and she just continued on eating and eating.

Almost three years ago, she realized that for her, it was the carbs that was the main problem; because carbs are high in suger. So she started to eat something called LCHF (Low carb, high fat), probably you already have heard of it. Instead of bread for breakfast, she ate eggs and high fat yoghurt. Instead of pasta for lunch; she ate zucchini-spagetti or broccoli or cauliflower with cheese, fish/chicken and a high fat sause.

She said it was really hard in the beginning, living without (expecially bread), but that after some weeks, the body and the brain started to get use to not getting that much carbs and suger. She got more energy, not at the beginning, because her brain was use to get all energy from carbs, but after some weeks her body re-set and started to take energy from the fat instead. Now, three years later, she's a normal weight, she's still eating LCHF, but not as strictly as before, and she has told me that this was what changed her life to the better. She also told me, that her binge eating disappeared automaticly when she skipped the carbs; she didn't even tried to stop; it stopped anyway.

Maybe worth looking into more?

That does sound good. But I have to tell you that I live in a group home of 21 people with mental health issues. I am Bi-polar. And they prepare our meals. Especially for supper a lot of carbs. Once I am well off pop. I want to tackle the bread and when the supper is full of carbs try to eat half.

Maybe you can talk about your sugar problems with the stuff. Tell them how bad you feel and how negative it is for both your mental health and Body. They are there to feel better, right? They want you to be happy. Tell them that you want to try cut the carbs, and maybe you can come up with a "diet" plan (even though I don't like the word "diet") together that works for you all. When I was in the mental hospital two years ago, I told them I didn't want any diary because I wanted to see if my body felt better without it, and it was no big deal. They ordered special food for me, so instead of cow's Milk and cream I got Almond Milk for breakfast and Soya cream in the food.

I know it makes everything much more problematic living together with others, not making your own food, but maybe the efford is worth it. I wish you good luck.

And one more thing: maybe there are more people there who wants a change in their diet. Maybe skipping the carbs is something more people has thought about but never said out loud because of the situation you all are in. Maybe you can help each other out :)
