Worried about blood test-What will happen?

I'm having a blood test next Thursday after concerns about being underweight. But does anyone know what they are looking for please because I don't know? Also if anything is found/not found from the blood test does any one know what happens after that? I got my BMI checked yesterday and it is still 16.7.

Hi Rubie, I'm not medically trained or very knowledgeable, but as far as I understand it, the doctor will be testing the levels of vitamins and minerals in your blood. You can read about the functions of all the vitamins and minerals on the NHS website at nhs.uk/Conditions/vitamins-... Sufficient potassium is very important for heart function, calcium for healthy bones, magnesium to ensure that your body absorbs the calcium properly, and iron to make red blood cells, which carry oxygen around your body. Vitamin D is also essential for bone health, vitamin C to protect cells and tissues. Do visit the NHS website if you have time.

If blood tests reveal deficiencies in any of these vitamins and minerals, that would suggest that your diet isn't providing your body with enough of what it needs to work properly. If that is the case, hopefully your GP will help you to achieve a more balanced diet.

Hi Honeyduke,

Thank you very much for your reply :) Thank you, I shall have a look on the NHS website now. If they want to help me achieve a more balanced diet kind it of scares me don't know why, even though I know it'd be for the best.

Best wishes,

Rubie
