Life Assurance?

Just wondering what the situation is regarding taking out life assurance for an AMN sufferer? In the present case, a policy is a compulsory requirement to obtain a mortgage.

Many thanks

Where do you live?

I fear that you just have to try. Different companies will treat a disease like AMN differently, so you will have to shop around.

I think you will get insurance but the rates may be a problem. My mortgage is paid off, and the nearest I have come to your problem is getting travel insurance. This was fine, but you had to declare it. Insurance companies are much better now about having diseases like AMN in their databases so they can price the risk quickly.

Thanks for the reply.

I see no reason why the risk shouldn't be insured, but finding the right company is the difficulty. The cover is needed in France, but in the past lenders have been happy to accept policies underwritten by UK companies.

I am contacting IFAs as well, but it occurred to me that someone on here might have recent experience.

They won't look at us! We are a liability! Not me anyway?

All the best

I had similar problems a few years ago when setting up a mortgage. I went through several hoops with the bank, they request some medical papers which I sent out, and then requested some more medical files which were duly supplied, only for the bank to decline me. I did a little digging and was recommended 'MetLife', but looking at their website it seemed like they were more oriented towards companies.

I phoned up a broker eventually, and had a very frank discussion about it all. The broker reckoned it would be quite pricey - something in the region of £50–100 a month for incomplete cover. Had quite a nice long chat with her about the problems of terminology as well, all of which made me think going through a broker was probably safer. I still haven't made a decision about it all yet...
