Stem Cell with AMN

Hello,

I am new to this website and I am located in the US. My mother's whole side of the family is experiencing neuropathy in the legs. I am going to be 30 years only this year, and I am experiencing so much pain in my legs. I am unable to work, I try to go to the gym and get some exercise but with the pain I have I do not want to do anything. I have spent the past hour on this site, reading posts and comments from everyone.

I am wondering if anyone has any good or bad comments on stem cell for the neuropathy in their legs. I have tried just about everything that all of the people are talking about taking on this site. The only thing that seems to numb my pain is marijuana, whether I smoke it or if I eat gummies, or brownies it just numbs my whole body and I am at ease.

The biggest thing I am looking to help is the pain in my legs at this point I am willing to try or do anything as I can't take it much more. Thank you in advance!

Hi Mvruggink

I am really sorry to hear about your experiences and the pain you are suffering. The reality with AMN is that we all seem to experience different symptoms. I, for example, don't suffer pain at all, only a bit of leg spasm, usually at night in bed. I do have a lot of spasticity which has increased over the years.

So, unfortunately, I can't suggest any remedies. It's good that marijuana seems to help. Sativex is a drug based on cannabis made by a UK company called GW pharma. Unfortunately, it is not yet approved in the U.S.

I have bad neuropathy pain from the knees down some days and mostly starts in the evenings. Marijuana is probably the closest thing to relieve this type of pain. It’s better in the sense that it won’t cause any extra side effects. Anything that you can get prescribed will only cause other issues in the process of bandaging the pain. So if marijuana helps I would stick with that. It’s a bad habit but pain meds are a lot worse.

Also figuring out some stretches that work for you can help reduce some of the pain. I just posted an article on my blog that gives directions on some stretches for the stiffness. Www.amnandme.com

Hi, I have a suggestion for you. I have AMN (I am female) and have neuropathy in my feet and lower legs. I started taking a few new supplements 3 months ago and the neuropathy symptoms have lessened. I am not in extreme pain like I used to be. I used to be at a high level of pain all the time. Now it is tolerable. The supplements are Alpha Lipoic Acid (take twice per day, Source Naturals is the brand I use--not sure of the mg) and Magnesium Malate (I take 400 mg per day). These 2 supplements made the spasms stop within a day or two. It's amazing!

I am not on the Internet much so if you reply to my message I may not see it for awhile. I don't have Internet access at home.

Good luck to you.

Diane

Here is an update on the Alpha Lipoic Acid dosage, I take a 600 mg capsule twice per day.

Diane, thank you for this. I recently added 1200 mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid to my regimen (only the first 2 days resulted with benefit). I've tried Magnesium in the past but it, too, lost its efficacy. Time to revisit.

Hi, I would recommend Magnesium Malate or Magnesium Glycinate. There are many different types of Magnesium and each one works differently. For exampe, Magnesium Carbonate can have a laxative effect I believe. I recommend talking to someone at a Health Food store that is knowledgeable or do a little research on-line. I personally take 2 capsules of Mag. Glycinate twice per day (Solaray brand) and also take a powdered magnesium (100 mg) just before bedtime to help me relax and sleep. So I think I am getting a total of 500 mg/day of magnesium.

I hope it helps you to feel better!

Have you spoken to a doctor about to get a prescription to help the pain? I'm on 900MG of Gabapentin a day and it helps a lot. I ran out right before vacation and regretted not having it. I found myself applying Bengay all day!

I was taking 900 mg, too, with an occasional increase at times. However, now, it seems that the efficacy is gone and I've since doubled the dosage with still continuing pain. This leaves me with a drug cocktail (combined with baclofen, also increased due to unrelenting spasms) morning hangover that has me grasping walls for mobility and being a major day disruptor.

I also have neuropathy in my legs. I am a female 56 years old and just started having symptoms last year. I tried Gabapentin but it made me too loopy to get anything done. I haven't tried anything else. The only thing that helps me is exercise. Fortunately, I have exercised obsessively for the past 30 years and the constant motion relieves my pain somewhat. Not all but at least manageable. I hope I can keep MOVING!

I believe that mvruggink is also referring to pain which occurs in resting. I can relate to motion activity but the enduring pain is striking when the body is in rest. Myself, the pain is excruciating when I retire in the evening when constant motion isn't feasible.
