I'm a 39-year-old femail carier with AMN symptoms - leg pain, fatigue ...

I have two daughters and a son, who died of ALD .....

Me and my husband dream of another baby. Is it possible, has anyone experienced pregnancy with AMN simptoms?

Of course, that I should consult a gynecologist for a healthy baby carrying opportunities. My question is just about how pregnancy could affect my AMN symptoms. Any experiences?

You need to see a genetic counsellor asap. You have a 50% chance of having a boy with ALD and the same of having a girl carrier. However you can undertake PGD which will allow a healthy child. It stands for Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis. It is a more technical IVF procedure

I know you are more than aware of the need to makes decisions with a doc re: a healthy baby and that's not what you are asking. I completely understand your concern about how pregnancy can affect YOU. I was diagnosed after both my kids were born (and after a miscarriage) so I don't know how a pregnancy would be but I wouldn't think it should affect you too much AMN-wise. I know I have worse symptoms of my back and leg pain around my ovulation and PMS/period time so things that stop my cycle... (like pregnancy would) tend to make me feel a little better actually. How much the typical pregnancy issues (back pain/urinary symptoms) superimposed on the AMN would impact you is likely very individual. I wish you the best!!

Thanks for your answers! Yes, I understand that how AMN would impact me is very individual. We have many talks with my husband and doctors, thei say - o.k , let it be, your condition is not that bad, you can have a baby. I want it very much, but I am afraid also... May be there are other cariers with treir stories? Thank you!!!!

I carried a baby after finding out that I too was a carrier...i was also 35...9 years older than the previous delivery...i remember feeling a bit more run down after the fact but did eventually bounce back...the pain was part of my life before and because its progresssive will continue to be so. Hi there, I am a 44 yo carrier with AMN symptoms and was 37 when I carried my youngest child. I was 32 when I had my first. Both of our girls were conceived via IVF using PGD to avoid me passing on the AMN/ALD gene. I was having some difficulties with my gait (mostly caused by tight/spastic hips and quads) prior to the pregnancy but didn't feel that AMN made my pregnancy any more difficult than normal, the only thing different for me was I got pubic symphysis (softening of the pubic bones) so had to wear a brace for the last couple of months, but as soon as I delivered the pain in my groin and glutes disappeared. I wish you the best of luck with starting a family.
