Mybetriq?

Has anyone tried this drug to manage urinary urgency or frequency? I have been taking it for three days, and I haven't found it to make much of a difference so far. I still have to wake up three to five times a night to use the restroom. This is an incredibly expensive drug, and my insurance only covers part of the cost.

Hi Aaron,

Nothing worked for me? I had Botox in my bladder March 1st last year and it started wearing off the end of last year! I'm having it again next week, it made a huge difference to my quality of life! Not having to wake through the night and not having the worry about needing to go all the time! I went from going about 14 times a day to 4 or 5 times! The only downside is I can't go naturally and need to use intermittent self catheters! But I've been using them for over 5 years due to high pressures in my bladder backing up to my kidneys, I used to go naturally then cath the retention but I can't go naturally now and never will be able to but I don't get leaks and still don't wake through the night! Something to think about?

All the best

Steven,

Thanks for your reply. I'm having an ultrasound of my kidneys in a couple weeks to see if any damage has been done to them by urine backing up. The whole botox/catheter thing sounds pretty terrible for me, and I'm still pretty young (30) to be going that route.

Yes. I take Detrol in the morning and Mybetriq in the early evening... Finally sleeping all night! It did take a week or 2 for the meds to build up. I was just taking Detrol and was still getting up several time a night and really wears you down mentally and physically.. I talked with Urologist who is working with my neurologist who is just working on AMN. He suggested adding Mybetriq. What a difference in my life. Both are expensive but I am able to control and not have urgency "feelings" cause it's not like there really is a lot to pee... This would make me so mad, get up middle of night and tinkle-tinkle... Really...

Hope this helps for you.

I am 35, and just started having to self catheterize last year as urine was backing into my kidneys and they were failing. Along with this, bouts of daytime and night time incontinence.

Once you get used to is, having to catheterize is very easy, and honestly the best! Haha. I can finally sleep through the night and not have to always be worrying about finding a bathroom in the day time. Also taking Myrbetriq, "deadens" the bladder that much more, so as there is no urgency. It takes a good month to start working.

I would be interested to know this, as well, bluejadedwho.

The Myrbetriq seems to be more effective now. I only have to wake once or twice each night to urinate, as opposed to four or five times a night before. I have found that I often need to strain or push on my bladder to get going, though. My urologist told me that this should not cause damage to the bladder. I hope he is right.

Hi. I am only 25 and bladder issues are one of my worst problems. Pushing on your bladder will do no damage. I just had my yearly ultrasound and my doctor saw no damage anywhere. I have to push to make sure everything comes out. I also refuse to use a catheter and my doctor said it is totally up to me because I have no kidney damage or bladder damage so it's not affecting me so far. I go to UVA.

Just to add to what others have said - I was 31 when I first started using catheters and had Botox for the first time soon after. Like you the thought of catheterisation was not something I wanted to think about or do. I didn't really know what intermittent self catheterisation was. But once you start it really is no problem at all. The catheters I use are quite discreet - they just look like a large pen. Having Botox/self catheterisation has been life changing. No getting up in the middle of the night or panicking about where the nearest toilet is. If the medication works then great (it never did for me), but don't be put off by the idea of catheterisation if it will make your day to day life better.
