I have a lot of time for 4-aminopyridine, and despite a lot (most) of my posts being about drugs, I really am not a drug person.
I've been taking more and more 4-aminopyridine lately and generally I tolerate it well, but at times it's like a mild pins-and needles mostly over my face. I can live with it. Probably I take 60-80mg per day. It works.
Anyway, I've been taking a fair amount of 4-aminopyridine-3-methanol of late and it's a completely different animal. Very pleasant (if that's the right word). It comes on quite slow compared with 4-AP. At first I wondered if I was wasting my money.
No, it's good. And low doses as well. I'm lucky to do 5mg in one day. My balance is excellent, much reduced spasticity, achey legs are better. Popped out to the shops earlier and ended up doing a 2 hour bike ride.
I can't be the only one who takes this, though at times it seems so.
My spasticity comes and goes in cycles. Today was shaping up to be a bad spasticity day. Not now. I've been taking a lot of L-threonine as well, and Aspirin for circulation, and I've started wearing compression stockings again as well.
I've this week stopped with the Gabapentin, I enjoyed the spasticity reduction, but the next day the spasticity was over double "usual" levels. Kept on redosing to avoid the comedown. I was relieved to see the last of all that.
All this adds up to greatly reduced spasticity. My wife was reading about a Russian billionaire who is planning to have his head transplanted onto a donor body. If only I had that kind of cash

I've been taking 4-aminopyridine for sometime as well with success. At first, I paid for the brand name. Without insurance willing to pay for it, at $1700/mo for 10mg/twice a day, it was not a feasible treatment. I began having it compounded at a reputable pharmacy. I still experience the benefits of reduced spasticity and increased gait flow. I don't know about the "3-methanol" part though. I'm not sure I'm getting that variant of the drug. I do know that I'm taking a slow release type. Interested to hear whether you experienced greater benefits with increased dosage.
Wow! I was just reading some very promising studies on it (albeit on guinea pigs but hey!) and was excited to see that you have tried it! Where do you get it?
Does your neuro prescribe it? Do you have it compounded? None of my docs have ever mentioned it as an option...they actually haven't offered much of anything...I guess I am not "severely affected" enough but my view is why wait until more damage is done before trying to restore function or prevent further degeneration. Thanks!
I am near tears reading this. It is just so frustrating. We are desperate for answers, for guidance, for help...and unless big pharma is getting $, we get shrugged off or given meds that rarely help without rotten side effects. Thank God for forums like this where we can help each other find answers. I am hoping to try this compound as well as investigate CBD and bee propolus. I have to hold out hope that something will help...for all of us and our loved ones.
The active component in bee propolis is caffeine acid...check it out...interesting stuff. I might have to become a bee-keeping cannabis horticulturist when it is eventually legalized. Those will be some HAPPY chilled out bees! 😉
Thank you so much. So ordering off that website is legit? I am in the USA. I always worry that online pharmacy may be a scam, but there seems to be no other way to get it! (Unless you're a guinea pig!) I couldn't find how many capsules come in the order...for $100, I would hope a decent supply. I appreciate your help!
I asked my neurologist about it. He told me they would supply free of charge for the first month and then $700 per month after that. I understand that it can be of a big help, but could not afford that amount. It's a bugger when it comes down to cost and not what is best for the patient.
Just came across this site whilst doing some research for my husband.
He has myelin damage on his spinal cord due to a car accident,this causes the electrical signals to his legs to be spasmodic therefore he has major difficulty walking.
I noticed that you take 4-aminopyridine-3-methanol and thought after reading the articles on this drug that it may benefit him.
