I would steer clear of pills of calcium and stuff they say they can clog arteries and give you stroke or heart attack so why not just take kefir or yougerts or leafy greens that is all natural unlike the big horse pills which are made from lime stone and oyster shells !!

Too counter that God made vitamin D3, vitamin K2-7, and Boron, to list a few, to take calcium from bloodstream to bones. There are many other things that work as well. Since most have been calcium deficient for along time, eating 100 pounds of broccoli a day may not work for them. Avoiding things like caffeine, and pasteurized milk products that take calcium from bones is a good idea as well. Calcium is transferred to bones while we sleep, proper timing of supplementation will increase intake into bones as well. I Doubt that any Allopathic MD could, or would, tell you anything that I just did, especially for free.

thanks Bruce I am a firm believer in getting your vitamins the old fashioned way - by eating the food with the vitamin in it this way you wont over dose or get the vitamin just not absorbed in the body which the doctors now say is what happens - the vitamins just go in your mouth and out the other end without the body absorbing them so eat the food and do read the book Brave new world by Huxley you cant fool nature

I take a liquid calcium. When you say timing of intake, are you saying it would be more beneficial to take my calcium supplement in the evening closer to sleep

Yes, I take around 500-700mg of calcium and half that of magnesium just before bed, I have noticed a huge difference in muscle relaxation by doing that.

I just bought Garden of Life supplement. Calcium comes from algae. Been taking it 2 weeks.

Hi Jshapz,

American Bone Health recommends getting as much calcium as you can from food or beverages, then using a supplement only if you need to close the gap. Here's an article we wrote with some rules of thumb to guide you. americanbonehealth.org/nutr...

Based on the evidence we have, a basic/generic calcium pill probably does as much good as the pricier brand-name products that make all sorts of claims.

And here's a very recent review of literature on calcium supplements. It finds that any link to heart attack/stroke risk is likely bogus. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/3...

Hi, Mark. The supplement, garden of life, raw calcium is from seaweed. I was reading what's in it. It says 3 mg. of strontium per dose. Now I have second thoughts about taking it. I don't want to screw up my density scans. Any thoughts on this?

After research I’m now taking algaecal plus and strontium boost

Just want to add that I have had success with getting sufficient calcium in my diet. I would be using the garden of life as a secondary source. I did buy 2 bottles of this before becoming aware of the Strontium.

I’ve now injured my foot. Did not fall or anything. I do a lot of walking but s few days ago I did a total of 27,370 steps. The outside of my foot is now swollen and painful to walk on or out weight on going up and down stairs. So a trip to gp tomorrow. I’m so Annoyed and upset about it as worried it’s a stress fracture!

Research “organic eggshells” as best calcium supplement. 🤷🏻‍♀️. I have started this regime. The calcium supplement I am taking at present ...(main ingredient is organic eggshells) ....So I have researched , and am now making my own supplement from organic eggshells. 👍🏼🤗

I take in split doses.

1/2 tsp. twice daily.
