sister verbally abusing 91 year old mother, she works for NHS

I have given videos of my 55 year old sister verbally and mentally abusing my 91 mother she is back in hospital again after falling, originally in hospital then respite for 3 weeks, then sent home one week later back in hospital, her face completely black with bruises. In that week sister video shows her mentally and financially abuse mother, social services refuse to act and say they are unauthorised. They want to send her home again , no one is concerned that sister will continue to abuse her. Everyone seems to close ranks because sister works for NHS.

Mother is 91 diagnosed with Alzheimer’s who can I turn too.

I’m sorry you feel so unsupported. The following are two organisations that may well be able to help:

HOURGLASS - a charity who deal specifically with elder abuse. They offer help and support to those experiencing abuse, as well as to those aware of it taking place. Contactable in various ways:

24hr free helpline (0808 808 8141)

Twitter: @wearehourglass_ @hourglasscymru

Web: we are hourglass.org

DEWIS CHOICE - working on elder abuse. Research, raising awareness etc

Twitter: @choiceolderppl

It’s #SafeguardingAdultsWeek on Twitter and so you may well find some useful information under this hashtag.

I hope this reply helps. Should you need any further information, please just ask.

Croeso. You’re welcome.

Just a thought, might be worth contacting an Admiral Nurse. They specialise in dementia and are there for both the person living with dementia as well as their families. They’re funded by charitable organisation ‘Dementia UK’ and as such their numbers are limited. You therefore may or may not have one close by. If not, they’re available nationally by email or phone. They’re an excellent source of information, offering advice & signposting. Their phone no. O800 888 6678.

Wishing you and your mother well 🍂
