Hiya Everyone, I'm a mum of five that has just been diagnosed with Alopecia areata. I have now lost more than half my head of hair and losing more daily. I now fear the shower and brushing whats left of my hair and the mirror of course. Fearing returning to work and facing the world, what an emotional ride with no end in sight. Heart-broken and fearful.

I was in my 40s the first time and lost about 2/3 of my hair. I bought a wig and several types of hats and went to my hairdresser where she shaved my head. I cried. It's devistating. I wish I had answers for you. Remember you haven't changed, only your hair. Now you can educate people of this dreadful disease. I'm now 58 and resigned to it.

I am very sorry to hear that. I had a similiar experience 3 years ago. I am a broker and I regulary meet my clients and most people do not make fun of me and understand. It takes some getting used to, but you need to be brave.

My suggestion is stay away from harsh shampoo and showering with hot water, hair products and look at making natural Shampoo that can be made by combining Olive Oil and Rosemary shampoo with baking soda. There is a bit a literature on the net about this. Also try making Rosemary infused extra virgin olive oil and rub that on the bald patches twice a day. Going on an anti inflammation diet helps too. You need to calm down the inflammation in your scalp and get it back to healthy again.

I had been shaving my scalp for the past 3 years and last September I stopped doing this when I managed to grow back nearly all of my hair which is starting to cover the last bald patches. There is light at the end of the tunnel and keep positive.

I can’t believe nobody has replied to you in 2 months! You must be heartbroken about your hair loss. Mine has thinned massively and I am devastated too. Let us know how you are doing. Xx

I’m in the medical field and am losing my hair. Even I didn’t notice and pick up the clues at first. I thought I thinned it to much myself while cutting it, because I’m half Hispanic and have always had lots of thick hair. Then I got real sick in late Feb (probably Covid) and my hairs falling out like crazy faster. I’ve probably lost 50% diffusely from my ears up to my crown with some bald areas . 😢it’s very devastating. The other day I ran my hand over my arms and I was like wow, my skins so soft and smooth. But when I got home I realized it’s because most of the hairs fallen out of my arms! They feel like freshly shaven legs. And they are starting to itch. And to top it all off, I’m at work and I kept getting something in my eye, and when I got home and washed my face I was missing a clump of eyelashes. Im thinking of buying a wig soon and just shaving it. I can’t walk around much longer looking worse than I do now. I know it’s Alopecia Universalis.
