Are these two ingredients related..? I am allergic to PG confirmed by way of a patch test, but read somewhere that PG is an ingredient in Sorbitol, found commonly in hair gel and other products. Any idea how/if they are related.?

Hi,

This is what I found: Sorbitol is a white, sweetish, hygroscopic, crystalline sugar alcohol of six-carbon. It is found naturally in various berries and fruits. Or it is prepared synthetically by high-pressure catalytic hydrogenation of glucose sugar derived from cornstarch. It melts at 93 to 98 C depending on the form. It is used as a a sweetening agent, food additive, toothpaste, tobacco, toiletries and in cosmetics. It is used for vitamin-C fermentation. It is used as a excipient and intravenous osmotic diuretic in pharmaceutical fields. It is also used in the manufacture of polyethers for polyurethanes and surfactants.

Polyether, any of a class of organic substances prepared by joining together or polymerizing many molecules of simpler compounds (monomers) by establishing ether links between them; polyethers, which may be either chain like or network like in molecular structure, comprise an unusually diverse group of polymers.

I would say that Sorbitol can be found in Polymers to make them, but I believe they are separate. My husband had a full body rash after using soap that I knew all the ingredients but Vitamin A palmitate or Retinyl palmitate. It was also in his milk which he got severely sick on. I'm finding it everywhere...It's a fake Vitamin, and I'm not buying products with it in anymore.

Hope it helps...

the new J&J covid vaccine has sorbital in it...polysorbate 80. Many articles say it's the same effects as PEG. I'm not an expert but just saying.........now I can take neither vaccine.

I have no idea, but someone just posted on my thread that they are allergic to propylene glycol, so they also avoid poly sorbital.

Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol and so is PG. Depending on your sensitivity, sorbitol may or may not be a problem for you. I avoid all sugar alcohols, just to be safe, with my PG allergy.
