ALD symptoms

I have a 4 month old son, in which I never thought I'd be able to seeing as I am a carrier of ALD. I lost my Dad to AMN in 2007 which was hard, so finding out I was having a son was scary. Obviously when I was pregnant I got my son tested to see if he had ALD and he came back negative. Recently he has been starting to shudder when moving his neck and legs, which is obviously nerve and spine connected so am a little unsure with the symptoms or starting of ALD. Please could anyone help me with there symptoms or sons symptoms, that would be a massive help!

Hi Dallas, I'm sure this has nothing to do with ALD. I've never heard of a male so young, showing symptoms, but I understand your concerns. I would take him to your doctor, just so you can get him checked out, and if you need more reassurance, ask your doctor to test your son again, at least then, this will put your mind at rest. I wish you and your son well x

Thank you for your reply, and yes I will take him to the doctors just to double check! My Dad only got diagnosed in his 30's so I have no idea when the first signs could show. Thank you for your help again! :) x

I presume the test they did when you were pregnant was to test for his x chromosome for mutation in the ABCD1 gene. If that came back as normal/negative then your son won't have ALD because the gene is fine. Definitely best to get him to a doctor though.

Good luck

Ah I misunderstood. Thought you said you got him tested when you were pregnant. Yes, definitely best to get him tested.
