Problems after ablation

I had an ablation for AF almost three weeks ago, for the first 6 days everything was perfect and then on the seventh I had a 15 hour attack of possibly flutter, then 5 hours respite with very low blood pressure and finally another 15 hours of the previous. This all stopped about a week or so ago and alls well for now. Has anybody else gone through this and come out ok after the 3 month blanking period?

Hi there

I have had two ablations and after the second onein June last year I was fine for two weeks and then went into SVT(Supra Ventricular Tachycardia) whilst this was alarming and I had to go into hospital for a week it was not an indication that the ablation hasn't worked. My blood pressure and heart rate was all over the place immediately after the ablation which I think is also normal. My cardiologist said that this was all perfectly normal and was because the ablation had irritated parts of the heart which now needed a period of time to settle back down. It did settle down and my AF has now been dealt with successfully.

Hope this is the same for you and that your blanking period otherwise passes by quickly and painlessly.

Best wishes

Thanks Katherine for the information. How long did it take before it settled down and was it a gradual process?

I had my ablation 3 years ago. It was OK for 2 days then I had very bad AF and tachycardia which lasted 12 hours. I had other attacks for another 2 months, gradually getting less and less. Then it stopped and has remained stiopped ever since, though I do frequently check my pulse!

So don't worry about it, it's quite normal.

Katherine. It takes up to three months before the scar tissue which blocks the rogue impulses forms so any time in that period you could experience some funny rhythms. This does not men the ablation hasn't worked but can be worrying I KNOW. I had three ablations between 2005 and 2009 but AF free since then. Some people take longer to recover than others as we are all different so please don't worry. AF is a long journey and there are no quick fixes I'm afraid.

Sorry that was for Johncb. Not quite used to this forum as I usually post on the AFA one.

johncb,

I also had my ablation about 3 weeks ago and had my first attack 5 days after. I have had (I think) 4 or 5 attacks since the ablation. I say "I think" because the attacks (which normally were quite severe) have been so mild that I barely noticed them. I get a feeling that something is off and when I try my BP monitor I find that my pulse is around 100 BPM. Before it would be about 170 to 180 BPM during an attack. My EP said not to worry about it and it should start to subside in 6 to 8 weeks and Hopefully stop betwen 3 to 4 months. I can honestly say that the ablation has already made an amazing difference.

Yes your situation is very similar to mine, I am still getting some sort of arrythmia , but it isnt as severe and I am getting lots of ectopics as well and then periods where everything is perfect.
