Slow Heart Rate

For the first hour of a recent Afib event, I had a very slow HR with widely spaced beats of one or two each time. My BP was okay.

My HR showed up as 40 for about one hour, before going into its usual erratic, quicker patterns.

About and hour after that, I went into the ER with extreme dizziness, which lasted for about 3 hours. I was not that dizzy with the 40 HR. Weird?

Has anyone had experience with this kind of thing or an explanation for it?

Thy did not mention TIA. I had no other symptoms of it. The cardiologist found no explaination.

Thanks for the suggestion. Time will tell, I guess.

Hi

Luckily my 47avg bpm is at night asleep says the Heart Monitor x 3. Day rapid 186 on Metoprolol, breathless, extreme fatigue with pauses at night. Bisoprolol 156bpm Day.

Changed to CCB Diltiazem best 180mg down to 51 twinked by 120mg CD 60s but peeters out before late afternoon so PM stays at 47.

Sometimes I get up but do not have any trouble walking to loo.

I think below 40 they will be concerned. Maybe a Pace Maker for you. A ablation can do it.

Keep your heart beating..

I have read that "slow AF" can very occasionally have causes that need further investigation, so do ask your specialist for their view on this. It seems that anti-arrhythmic drugs are contraindicated with it, too.

Dizziness is the result of the ventricles not filling well or being in some other way inefficient and thus not maintaining blood pressure effectively. You did the right thing to seek medical help, I would say, but it might be that in future just lying horizontal might help to keep the cerebral blood flow up.

I think fitting a pacemaker is sometimes done to correct these bradycardia problems. My own heart rate is often slow and I can well imagine my having t take that route at some point.
