can she stop eliquis or wean off?

good news! Mom's test results came back great once again! Doctor says she only seems to get AFib when she got sick.. first time caused by pseudoephedrine in the sinus medicine and second time AFib from infected bug bite. He said that her test results are very reassuring and he believes she can stop Eliquis and from now on be seen in the office for any colds or any time her overall well-being is off.

the question I have is, should she wean off?she has been on 5 mg twice a day for only 32 days. Thank you everybody!!! 🤗🤗🤗♥️

As you probably know, most of us are not medically trained and are therefore unable to offer advice on medication. Obviously we do not know your mothers circumstances but if she scores 1 or less on the CHADsVASC score and decides to stop taking Eliquis then she should seek medical advice on how best this should be done……..

So glad to hear this reassuring news about your Mum. As FlapJack says, do seek advice re coming off anticoagulants because of potential stroke risk if your mum does get AF in future. Bouts of flu or other infections for example might trigger it.

She doesn’t need to wean off, just stop. I wouldn’t but if her doctor says so I guess she can.

Why wean off Eliquis? Even if she just has just 1 more AF recurrance in the future which can cause a clot, the Eliquis could save her life.

The doctors said they believe that they can take her off of eliquis. They want her to keep it in the house at all times but it seems this only happened twice each time being very sick and also on a dangerous cold medicine drug. So.. they said they want her in the office anytime that she feels unwell to be safe and she rarely gets sick which is why it was 10 months between episodes. She got infections twice in 10 months, a sinus infection and then the bug bite infection. She had the heart monitor on a total of 28 days and never shows afib. They've done the echo and blood tests. Ultrasound od thyroid etc... everything is ok and she has no comorbidities.

I am going to make a consult appt with the cardiologist to just have a long talk about things and also we got her the FitBit today that will track all heart activity and afib. It was a godsend when we saw that it was wonderful for afib patients! It will send alerts and show us ekg daily and is shared with the doctors. It gave a list of countries who have that particular feature so not sure where everyone is from.. this is United States.

As for the eliquis they said they believed she can go off of it and also they know how much she hates it. It's bad for her kidneys and also causes great stress 24/7 when she's on it. Perhaps they will do the 2.5 dose.. not sure yet.

And also, my sister who is an RN and team leader at the hospital gave us devices for at home other than the Fitbit.. she checks her blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen 3 times a day.. and my mom often checks it just hanging around watching tv to see what situations might stress her etc... so far all of this time it's always perfect BP, saturation and heart rate stays about 73 sometimes 60's. Maybe once or twice 80. But on average 70s.

When my doctor took me off it after being on it before and after my ablation, he said just stop taking it and there was no need to wean off. I did just that. No issues at all.

Thank you 😊. I'm not going to lie, I'm nervous of course and praying all throughout the days for my mom... But I'll say and I've said it before. Only being here for such a short time I can't thank all of you enough for your willingness to be so nice to me and to show caring. I've been so emotional and with the world the way it is today... You all, and I'm not just saying this, you all have been a light. Thank you so much.
