Cardio version successful, but why don’t I feel any better?

I developed AF in June this year. Felt so breathless, no energy, dreadful. Had a successful CV a week last Friday, but don’t feel, any improvement whatsoever. My pulse is now steady at 80 bpm, but the slightest exertion e.g. going upstairs leaves me out of breath. Any advice welcome.

I don't think you should be feeling like this. I suggest that you get back to your GP or arrhythmia nurse, if you have one, and explain how you feel.

I agree with Jalia.

You have a problem beside the atrial fibrillation which was apparently converted to NSR with the DCCV. You could have Congestive Heart Failure which could be a result of valvular problems or other causes. At a minimum a Chest X Ray and Echocardiogram should be done. You should be evaluated by a cardiologist or if that would take more than several days it would seem to me that a visit to A + E would be in order to rule out possibly serious worsening condition. Best of luck in getting this evaluated quickly before possibly worse symptoms ensue..etheral

Many thanks for these responses. I have an appointment with my arrhythmia nurse this Friday so will look forward to his response. My medication is 5mg bosoprolol, 5mg apixaban (twice daily) and 400mg dronedarone (twice daily)..

I agree with what etheral has said. If you deteriorate before Friday then get to AE. I was in your situation some years ago , got more and more breathless after converting and ended up with pulmonary oedema. How are you today ?

Just the same.

Don't be afraid to seek further advice from 111 if you feel the need before Friday.

Was that as a result of the cardioversion? I only ask as after 3 of mine, I ended up with breathing issues during that night (they said I had a chest infection for one of them but it came on suddenly, which I thought odd).

No. It was more because I didn't have a cardioversion! Bit of a long story. Basically I was left in AF , 120+ if I remember correctly, for 3 weeks , cardioverted spontaneously whilst the fluid was building up. It was a frightening time as I could barely walk a few steps.

Right. I had puffed up as well and had to have fluid drained first, then had cardioversions. Perhaps I had some lingering fluid that displaced after the jolts but after the last one in August, my oxygen sats dropped into the 80s and I felt I was gasping. Lasted a few hours before easing off and settling.

Gosh that's low. My episode was in 2008 and I wasn't aware of oximeters or any thing like that! I think there was just one passed around the surgery at that time. It was this that helped to make my decision for 1st ablation in 2009

It did worry me somewhat so I got up and walked about puffing like a steam train to get extra air in.
