Just had Cryo ablation. About 2 hours in lab. Was fully conscious throughout. Only part that was uncomfortable was the “ ice cream headache “. Feel fine now .

Thanks for all the responses to my posts .

Honestly… read the fact sheet and take it easy I think Bob’s advice which is: for a week the biggest exertion should be picking up the TV remote, is worth repeating

Delighted it all went well

Well done Kalgs - nothing too it eh!! 😁there will be swelling and a lumpy ball feeling in your groin which will gradually reduce in size and eventually go away! Make sure you rest and stay rested. It's easy to think you can do more but you'll hit a wall and it could set you back. Remember one stair at a time walking up and down flights of stairs "good foot to heaven bad foot to hell". Welcome to the ablation club👍

Have you had any set backs yet nick? Last few days I feel like I have 😫

kalgs profile image
kalgs in reply to Elli86

Not yet

Nick1957 profile image
Nick1957 in reply to Elli86

Not really apart from 3 weeks of a dry cough which is being treated with nasal steroids and appears to be working. Played 2rounds of golf this week and walked round Whipsnade zoo. Making sure I rest up in between too. How you doing??

kalgs profile image
kalgs in reply to Nick1957

Had it yesterday. Driving back from London today . Feel good

Elli86 profile image
Elli86 in reply to Nick1957

Been sapped of energy last few days if I do too much. Haven’t been for a walk since Sunday. Not sure what’s going on to be honest. Just trying to rest and see what happens

Nick1957 profile image
Nick1957 in reply to Elli86

Rest, rest and rest - your body is not ready just yet. We're you symptomatic of AF? I was asymptomatic and maybe it's the same after ablation. We're all different! Think I overdid it today- i feel OK but carrying my golf bag knackered me out!! I'm going to rest for a couple of days and take it easy! Keep in touch mate!

Elli86 profile image
Elli86 in reply to Nick1957

Yeah I was massively symptomatic when I went into AF. I’ve not been in AF since the op though. Heart feels really sensitive all round that area last few days as well though

Nick1957 profile image
Nick1957 in reply to Elli86

My HR is a steady 68bpm- pre op it was 52bpm so the heart is still healing! Take it easy and rest up.

Elli86 profile image
Elli86 in reply to Nick1957

Mine went down to 62 on Saturday after decreasing slowly and last 3 days has shot back up to 68 as well. Not sure if that’s a coincidence but the whole area feels rubbish and I can’t do much without getting tired very quickly. Not sure if it’s because I’ve done too much or if my heart is just doing some serious healing.

Frustrating to say the least though

Kalgs just so you know for future….. I think your responding to messages that were not intended for you? The name of the person who the message was intended for will be next to the name of the person who sent the message. Just to avoid any future confusion for yourself 👍

Glad all went well. I only had a couple of seconds of ice cream headache. It was the "hiccups" that bothered me 😁. As everyone else has mentioned, but I don't think it can be emphasised enough, is rest, rest, rest and when you think you are done resting, rest some more. Here's to a successful and speedy recovery.😊.

Hi, I had cryoablation in March and the first 6-8 weeks are the toughest. You may get a migraine aura in the next few days don’t worry it will pass, quite common apparently after ablation. There will be days when you think your superman and start to do things in those first 2-3 weeks, DONT be tempted it will set you back. I would advise complete rest for up to six weeks. Good luck and we’ll done the worst is over 👍

Really pleased it went well and wasnt as bad as you had expected. Not had one yet myself but from what everyone on here says, it's time to rest.

kalgs profile image

Seem different depending on hospital and health conditions

Nannysue1 profile image
Nannysue1 in reply to kalgs

Think mines because I've been told it will be a 5hr procedure with TOE. I do have other conditions, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and will have my EP and someone who specialises in that as well, doing it.

kalgs profile image
kalgs in reply to Nannysue1

Good luck . My ablation was less than 2 hrs

Way to go kalgs! While you are sedentary for the next few weeks, I suggest a very brief daily log. BP, HR, and a comment to yourself regarding how things are feeling and weird beats, if any. This was helpful for me to have the info for my follow-ups with the doc, but also a confidence builder as I saw things change for the better—consistent in timing with all that I had read and been told. All the best.

Did you have AFlutter ablation? It is quicker and more simple.

I had no sedation for re entry AFlutter and it took 15 minutes. Prep was 30 minutes.

No pain or swelling. Was up and about as normal next day.

kalgs profile image
kalgs in reply to Palpman

I don’t have flutter . I went in because of AFIB and ectopics

well done. I have very sore ice cream head during my op and then blinding migraine for the first 5 or so days if I had too much screen time. They are a bit shocking but dot last for to long.
