Heat and afib

Sustainedvtach270 profile image

In March I passed out a couple times, the 2nd time, I was fortunate to be already hospitalized with rapid afib following my first syncope. I went into sustained vtach@ heart rate 275 and went into cardiac arrest. I now have a pace maker/defibrilator because my resting heart rate is 50. I take Sotalol and baby aspirin.

I have been fine until these last few weeks. I converted at least 3 times to afib, mostly at night time, waking up with hot flashes, dizziness and palpitations. Each time I was able to convert back by getting more sleep and relaxing with belly breathing. We live in the US north east with hot humid summers. I usually turn off the A/C at night. I am still puzzled to my afib causes, anxiety, too frequent intimate moments with my wife or heat?

Maybe any of the three you mention. It's hard to pinpoint what the triggers are. I try and stay out of the heat for sure now living in Florida. If you can try leaving the AC on at night if you can and see if you notice any difference. I have high anxiety and taking magnesium supplements helps that and of course the heart as it's an important supplement for the heart. Dont know what to tell you about being intimate. Does it trigger high heart rate that doesn't subside after awhile. So many different things can trigger Afib. I'm sure you will get many replies. Lots of help here. Take care.

Thank you for your answer and mentioning magnesium supplement. Another negative factor I think is snacking to help me go to sleep. I have to wake up at 5 when I go to work and when I cannot sleep, I take a hot bath and a bite to eat.

At night I lay flat on the floor before I go to bed. And I stretch the best I can and do deep breathing to the count of two. Deep breath in, deep breath out. I stretch my arms straight out above my head for a count to 30. Then I keep them straight and but angle them out to form a V above my head. Count to 30 again. I then stretch my neck to one side and count. Then the other side and count. Then I sit up and spread my legs and touch my toes to a count of 30. Then lay back down and put my arms straight by my sides and count. All the while doing deep breathing. It's good for the blood pressure and heart rate. And it's very relaxing. Sometimes I find that I've fallen asleep while doing the exercises. 😁 Since I started doing this I fall asleep easier and sleep better. Try to give up the snacking. The body has to work on digesting and makes it harder to sleep. Hope you can try this and it helps. Other people here have other "tricks" they may suggest. Take care.

Wondering why on earth you would turn off the AC at night when sleep and comfort is so important. No wonder you’re having problems. I’m sure keeping it on will correct most of your current issues.
