Hi guys.

I’ve got my ablation coming up on the 16th of august 😬 still not dancing on the ceiling about it but slowly getting my head around it.

I’ve got a question about rivaroxaban. I’ve been told to start taking this tomorrow but they didn’t mention how much to take? Due to my age (35) I don’t need to take these with my daily bisoprolol but I still have tablets left over from when I went to A&E the first time and they gave me them to take with the bisop. They are xarelto 20mg. Do I really need to take this dose or can I get away with less? I will give the hospital a call also but thought one of you guys may know or someone who’s coming up to their ablation date could give advice on what they were told?

Also on a semi-side note, the first time round when I was on bisop I did not tolerate it at all. I was taken off and put on flecainaide and these were even worse so I switched back to bisop as I had these in the draw and weirdly my body seemed to tolerate these much better after a 3 monthish gap. I’m wondering though if this was due to the fact that the second time round I wasn’t taking any rivoroxaban? Has anyone else noticed any side effects with these or any other type of anti coagulant? I will find out for sure over next couple of days when I start taking them again 😫 just thought someone may have info?

Anyway thanks as always guys.

Look forward to reading the replies 👍

Rivaroxaban should be taken as prescribed, (the full dose) and must be taken with ameal preferably containing some fat. You should have have been on this anticoagulant for at least a month prior to your ablation. and most likely three months afterwards regardless of your age. Please ring the hospital asap and explain that you have not been taking them.

Hi Bob.

Thanks for reply. As I said in the message I haven’t been given a dose and also tomorrow is the date I was told to start taking anti-coags again which will be exactly 3 weeks before my op. There’s been no mention of how long I will have to be on them after the op though. Hopefully not too long if all goes well

You will probably still be on them for a few months after your procedure at least until your follow up meeting anyway.👍

I was told to start 25 days before for Pradaxa/ dabigatran, so similar ball park figure.

Roughly same yes robbo. Been told by arythmia nurse to take 20mg now. Also been told if I want general anaesthetic then I need to go on another waiting list and could be waiting another 6 months 😫😫

I had no problem on either of my ablations on sedation. In fact my Afib ablation was very interesting as i could see a lot if what was going on. And it was good! And no afib for over 3.5 years!

I just can’t make my mind up. Keep going back and forth. Hate not having control of a situation so having someone messing around inside my body while I’m semi conscious of it is a nightmare for me.

Rivaroxaban 20mg is once a day, make sure you take it with a meal as it may cause digestive problems. I’ve been taking it for a few years now and as long as I take it with a full meal I don’t experience any stomach discomfort.

Thanks jmac. I’ve taken rivaroxaban before as I said in message. Question was more geared towards how much I need to take prior to an ablation as mine is supposed to be coming up but thanks for input anyway 👍
