Hi Barb, did you reduce your dose slowly, or did you just drop to 2.5mg of bisoprolol?

I reduced slowly. Thanks for replying.

You know sometimes I think our bodies get so used to the drugs we take to restrain our hearts, that coming off of them can cause effects too. I've found they just have to be sat out until the heart gets used to not having them. It somehow needs to rebalance itself.

Sometimes what one considers slowly is not slowly enough. To go from 10mg down to 2.5mg might take several months rather than a few weeks. The beta receptors in our cells need to be "duped " or they set up an outcry at no longer being protected from adrenaline giving rise to nasty symptoms s. The only way to do this for some people is to reduce the amount fractionally and stay on the new dose for at least a month. The lower you go the slower you need to be.

Some years ago I went from 5mg to 1.25 whilst in hospital and under the supervision of my cardiologist. I had been suffering strong side effects which had me taken to hospital by ambulance. I’m now on half that lowest dose tablet and the cardiologist wonder if it’s worth my taking such a tiny amount, but my heart rate goes too low if I take any more.

It must have an effect on some people as I have read reports from people who have been withdrawing and say that going from .65mg to nothing is the hardest bit!
