Breathless after cryo ablation
Hi, if you have just been put on 3.75 mg Bisoprolol without any gradual progression then that is probably contributing to your breathlessness. Is it your GP or the hospital who are prescribing your medication? Has there been any discussions about having a cardioversion?
The following factsheet will help your recovery.

Hi I was taken off flecanide the morning after my ablation as the consultant said it was dangerous for me to be on it? I've taken it for 4 years and for along time it controlled my AF. But now have to take 3.75 Bisoperol twice a day. Been told I may need cardioversion after 12 weeks? Can't understand if my pulmonary veins have been isolated so no signals can get through why am I in AF ?
I am not medically trained but as I understand it, the pulmonary veins are not always regular in shape. Therefore, it’s not unusual for the expanding balloon which is used to freeze the tissue around the veins, to miss bits which can enable the rogue signals to break through. It also takes time for the scarred tissue to form so this may be why they want to wait a while before performing a cardioversion. Many people (me included) require a second radio frequency (RF) ablation to touch up any missed bits. If you are taking 7.5 mg Bisoprolol per day, that will certainly have the capacity to make you feel breathless. Be patient and do not try to do too much too quickly, things should improve in time.
I felt dreadful on Bisoprolol so thankfully, I was taken off it. My pharmacist explained that it binds to receptors in the lungs as well as the heart which causes the breathlessness.
i understand that Bisoprolol is favoured as is less likely to effect the lungs as I heart specific. I wonder if sone of the breathlessness is philological as people worry about beta blockers.
I was totally unaware of issues with beta blockers when I was put on to Bisoprolol 4.5 years ago when my AF started. I had been on another beta blocker for high blood pressure, for a few months, a few years earlier without a problem at all. It was just a conversation with my local pharmacist about my breathlessness where he mentioned, although Bisoprolol is supposed to be heart specific, it can still affect the receptors in the lungs.
I subsequently discussed this with my cardiologist, who agreed that it was a known issue and switched me to Diltiazem instead.....that had it's own different side effects but no breathing issues.
You are right it is a known issue and not psychological
The only reason I suggest possible physiological is i take bisporolol and when I read about breathless symptoms i suddenly feel breathless .....very strange
