Afib after throwing up..

Hi guys..

Hope that you all are good and i wish you all a good christmas holidays and a happy new year..

Yesterday i had afib after vomit... I drunk a few beers and i know my dinner digestion stopped .. as always the moment i vomit i get afib .. is this vagal afib?

What do you think that happen the moment i vomit to explain my afib.. thank you all for your time

I think what you're eating and drinking is causing your AF, not so much the vomiting. Your body obviously hates what you're putting into it and hence it makes you sick, at the same time triggering AF.

Hi there. Second time you ve posted about vomiting triggering your AF. Several possible causes, dehydration, altering your electrolyte balance and altering your vagal tone . In other words if you carry on eating and drinking to the point of throwing up you can expect to be rewarded with a bout of AF.Your choice , All the best and happy Christmas

I'm sorry for bother you with this question but if vomiting trigger afib.. then is it vagal afib right?

It could be a very simple answer. Alcohol is a very common trigger for AF and too much of it will cause you to vomit. This isn’t vagal AF.

The choice is yours.

Debatable because he doesn’t get AF until he throws up .

I don’t know if it’s vagal all I know is that after throwing up I’ve gone into afib and had not been drinking but was obviously sick.

Consider the following...

Prior to my very successful PVI cryoablation (Aug. 2018), many/most of my AF episodes were triggered by gastric issues (vagal influences) and/or esophageal spasm (I suffer from mild intermittent nutcracker esophagus). Parts of our esophagus are adjacent to (and can make direct contact with) the left atrium of the heart. It is my belief that esophageal spasm can trigger AF 'mechanically', if/when the spasming esophagus makes direct contact with the left atrium or one or more pulmonary veins. The action of vomiting of course causes extreme esophageal spasm for a few moments. Few doctors ever discuss the relationship between esophageal spasm and AF. I encourage others to research the topic.

Hi Mate, just come across your post its been 3 years since you have posted about this… I like your self only get into AF when i throw up now after drinking alchohol. I have gone into AF about 5 times now over the period of 10 years now and i am 35 years of age now. I had cyroblation about 5 years ago and i have been drinking when i when i went out and i did throw up at times and i never went i to AF which was the best thing ever! However 2 months ago i was in turkey and went out and had a few too much drinks and threw up expecting not to go into AF as it never happened after my ablation but I did i have stopped drinking again as im scared to and btw i only drink once in a blue moon… since the last episode of af i have noticed when my stomach is full after eating it now does random flutters/thuds which i believe is triggered by my diaphragm or vagus nerve. I booked appointment to go back to my consultant after 5 years and notified him AF has now returned and he has asked for me to have a heart scan and some blood tests… how are you now have you managed to find out why it happens after throwing up? I believe we both have the exact same issue.
