A little anxious

I had a phone call tonight from the anesthetist who will be looking after me on Thursday. We spoke for about 15 minutes and went into all my heart history. She said there’s a strong likelihood of me going into tachycardia or even AF during surgery and/or in the subsequent days. She will take good care of me and said if my heart behaves I’ll go to a surgical ward and if there’s any hiccups I’ll be sent to CCU (eek). I know I’m in good hands but I felt a bit shaky when I hung up.

I went into Afib towards the end of having a GA for a hip replace. following an accident. They told when I came around but said they deal with this quite often.I was ok when I awoke so I guess whatever meds. i had been given dealt with it .So try not to worry .

Yeah, I’m usually a glass half full type of girl and I try not to worry about things but I was a little unnerved. I’m sure all will be fine I’ll update you all from whatever ward I end up in 😉

Hiya Kaz,

There is very little I can say I know to give you much comfort. Except, my knee replacement went fine and I didn't lurch into AF or anything like it. It sounds as if your anaesthetist is very calm and caring. I guess the positive spin on it is that she is ready for everything and anything. You'll be fine .....may the force be with you. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Thanks John. Yes, despite her warnings she was very reassuring. She knows my EP and has worked with him previously and will call him if there’s any problems.

Best be prepared though and she was preparing for worst scenario and you must hope for the best. Even if you do go into CCU it does mean you will be in the best place and it doesn’t mean the AF will return after you recover as it may just be the affect of the drugs.

Deep breaths, onward and upward and lots of positive thinking and vibes being sent right now - may take a day or so for you to receive them though.....chin up girl.

😘

I'm not surprised you felt a bit shaky Kaz, looking at what might happen is scary. But it sounds like you are in safe hands. Best wishes for smooth recovery.💐❤🙏🙏

Sounds as if they are on the ball and efficient.

CCU is just a specialist ward IF you need it of course.

Keep your chin up 😘💞

I had a major stomach operation 2 months after my first cardioversion..... my heart behaved, no issues at all.

So think positive.... good vibes from me! It will be alright! ❤️❤️

My heart behaved well when I had my knee replaced last year. I did go into af late the following evening though, which causes a bit of a stir on the ward, as it isn't something they're used to seeing in orthopaedics. They did eventually allow me to take my pip and all settled, as I told them it would!

That’s good to know. Thanks.

I went into afib a couple of days after bowel surgery but during the op itself I was fine. I think it is quite common with older people even if they have not had afib before. I have a hip replacement coming up in December and am more worried about coming off the Apixaban as the surgeon said I needed to come off a week before and would be covered by a couple of bridging injections.

I can understand you being nervous. I had to be off anticoagulants for 3 days. All the best for your hip surgery too.

Thank you. I hope you sail through the surgery and bon courage for the recovery afterwards. That sounded grueling!

Awe kaz yes not what you needed to hear, but I guess they cover all options eh.

Hopefully you will sail thru it unscathed and get back to enjoying that amazing Australian sunshine and views.

I had an op to repair my broken kneecap, and didn’t go into AF. Sometimes the thoughts of what’s going to happen are far worse than what actually does happen. Good luck, think you’ll be fine.
