Thank you all for your thoughful and supportive responses!

I had a routine bloodtest appt on Tuesday 18th ,at which nurse asked how I was doing. Told her the ongoing saga of trying to get advice from consultant, and trying to get through to arrythmia nurse that I wasnt ringing about ablation. She did an ecg showed dr,he asked to repeat, then called me in said I am admitting you!

Heart rate was swinging every few 10 to 15 seconds between 200 and 40 .

Long story short,it was a weird pattern of flutter( which i didnt recognise as dont get very often) obviously my normal response to heart carrying ons is to take 100 to 200 mg flecanide, pretty pointless for rate control.

Got sorted out and monitored. This was my local hospital, where Im a cardiology patient, not the teaching hospital where I see my EP.

They did say it was unecessary for me to have been without medication advice for a week. I had rung the Eps secretary twice, emailed him several Kardia readings, rung the arrthymia nurse and got very frustrated with her as she just couldnt seem to grasp what I was ringing for, rang GPcoukdnt get appt for a week, spoke to pharmacist....etc

When I got home, I rang EPs Arrthymia nurse to say I have been sorted out.Unbelievably she still said' Proff O will see you in clinic in March (planned 6 minths ago) And discuss the ablation then'.........I gritted my teeth and said, and the medication?....short silence..'.Oh she said,I thought you were treating it with 200mg of flec in the meantime?...' I had to out the phone down Im afraid

So I have written a letter of concern to that hospital regarding communication etc!

I am now in NSR....touch wood remain so!

Beware the tea!

What a nightmare (mare) typo edited 😂😬, bet it feels good to be in NSR, think these days with anything we all have to be our own doctors at times, and communication even with GP s seems a massive area of concern. Rest up and hope your OK 👍

Ian your message has made me laugh so much, but wilsond is not going to like you calling her a mare. I'd get out of the country quick. LOL

Oh poop. Bad enough when it's obvious from replies that emails haven't been read but when its a tel conversation. Definitely pursue as this nurse needs retraining. Have you gone through PALS they have always sorted issues for me.

Great you are back in rhythm ( and a normal one at that!)

Oh my God!Definitely a count to 10 situation. I have had this kind of thing happen a propos of trying to help extremely elderly folk we know when trying to help them out a bit at hospital.Yes. grit your teeth is an appropriate response.

Ye godfathers - all that unnecessary carry-on alone is enough to unsettle the heart. Well done to the nurse and doc who finally listened. I hope you are recovering well and avoiding pots of caffeine like the plague. xx

Hi Wilson :-) good you managed to stay calm and didn't trigger AF that would have been too much!

How lucky some people are in various parts of the country, they seem to get the full attention of health professionls at the drop of a hat while others are given the run around or simply not listed to. I am currently fighting a similar battle .

I hope you stay in NSR for the foreseeable future and don't need to rely on any of them.

I can guess the state of your mind by your writing, just all so farcical isn't it! Sorry you have had to go through all this.

Thank goodness you're back in NSR. Are you taking the 2 x 50mg Flec etc again?

Now I want you to write out 100 times: I must not drink more than a few cups of tea.

So pleased you are back in NSR - what a carry-on though. I always double check with waiting staff if it is definitely decaff tea/coffee that they have brought and several times it has been hastily removed and replaced. I also carry a few of my own decaff tea bags in my handbag as not everywhere can supply them - plus they don't charge you if using your own - Easyjet included!!! Silver linings everywhere.

Hi. I believe from past posts we are under the same hospital in the midlands. I agree the communication isn’t great! I had a CT scan Xmas eve and only got the results a few days ago! I emailed consultant after 5 weeks and he said he hadn’t had any results back then when I got back from holiday I rang his secretary to say it’s been 8 weeks and not heard anything! Low & behold she sent my letter of results the next day by email. I think I’d still be waiting if I hadn’t rang them 🙄

It’s not good enough especially when you’re stressed out waiting for news. That can’t be good for our hearts 🤦‍♀️

wilsond in reply to Suzy1954

No indeed not.....hope all is well xx

Suzy1954 profile image
Suzy1954 in reply to wilsond

There was no bad news thankfully. Things are just the same as previous scans. Can’t ask for more I guess but I could have had my mind put at ease a lot sooner surely 🙄

Yes....and we sit there anxiously waiting to hear! Good news xx

Communication is so difficult eh?

GrannyE profile image
GrannyE

No it certainly is not good enough. Problem with hearts is that sometimes one needs to be seen sooner rather than in 6months time and other than urgent care/A&E it can be impossible/nightmare. So sorry you have been through this - it is enough to give you high BP and tip you into A.F!

Bless you what an ordeal. So strange when some hospitals consultants nurses understand and help some seem like off another planet. Scary for you and horrible. Good job you know what you are talking about. Will you complain?so sorry for you.
