1. Shall I reduce my Flecainide down to 100 mg per day? Answer = why its working isn’t it.

2. Why have I got cold feet while on Flecainide? Answer = no idea but different drugs affect people differently

3. What do you think about taking magnesium? Answer = personally apart from one type of arrhythmia don’t think it makes much difference

4. Why have I got 10% ectopics at the moment? Answer = don’t know you just have and unless they are troublesome they won’t do you any harm.

5. I did get my own back though because I like him so much and so respect him I feel 100% confident in his skill so much so I was so not stressed which meant despite repeated efforts he couldn’t catch an ectopic on the ECG.

6. He did say that he is shortly off to a conference where more new advances are being unveiled in treating AF which is great news with some exciting developments.

7. Only wish everyone had someone has urbane, funny and clever as my Cardiologist. You come away from a meeting with him definitely feeling this curse is more of a molehill than a mountain.

8. A curry with mates and some low alcohol beer this evening beckons.

His answer on #1 is kind if like “ if it isnt broke dont fix it”, lol. I have cold feet to, someone told me it was the betablocker.

My reply to Q2 = yes, I had cold feet on Flecainide

Q3 = I took Magnesium and felt it really helped, I had loads more energy and it helped with restless legs at night.

Q 1-4 sound very similar to my Guildford cardiologist's responses, who I am seeing today for an annual check-up. I am also pleased with his advice but the confidence is not helped by the professional way he avoids discussion on alternatives e.g. reducing Flecainide

Glad I posted this as it’s interesting to see other peoples views / responses. I can see the logic of “if it ain’t broke”....as I haven’t had a single fibrillation episode since early September last year with the Flecainide it does make sense. A supplemental question I did ask him last night about a glass of wine was interesting...an occasional glass is ok but go for quality not quantity...

I like that man. When first diagnosed I gave up alcohol. I gnerally had a small glass of wine with my meal and then sometimes a G+T or a Whiskey. Now I am pleased to say the nurses said alcohol now and again is no problem so rarely have G+T or whiskey but the small glass of wine ocassionally with a meal. You can't have red meat without red wine now can you? LOL

Or a little red wine with pasta and red sauce. :)

Yes, exactly. We are having pasta this evening so will be having that small glass of red wine. I never have the whole of the glass either as my wife shares the wine as she is unable to drink because of medication but takes a few sips from mine. LOL

My cold feet I have been told is through the bisoprolol although I only tale 1.25. However I think I had cold feet before then, what I have noticed though is that my fingers go cold dead outside (despite thick gloves) since I've been on anti-coagulants.

Enjoy the curry and beer and have a good time

Thank goodness for Adnams Ghost Ship...3 pints followed by a pint of Cobra AF (always think thats ironic AF beers for people with AF) and able to ride my Harley home stone cold sober...interesting I spoke to Dr Google and then Nurse Wikipedia who confirmed that common side effects of Flecainide are dizziness and shortness of breath. Strange I don’t get those effects when properly exercising, just when I sometimes stand up. Great to also see it’s only costing the NHS £7.68 per month and has been around since 1985, so 35 years. Good old Nurse W she is so helpful and informative.

Fleicanide works for me. I strongly reject all new medications which is partly emotional with a side of research/evidence. My cardiologist is generous with his time and intellect so that I feel involved in my health decisions- incredibly important to me. Good luck. V
