AFib attacks Xmas Eve and New Years Eve.

I was in AFib on Xmas Eve for 12 hours approx. and NEW YEARS for approx 24 Hours. Seemed like no reason for the Xmas Eve attack BPM up to 170 during the New Year period. I suspect the trigger for the New Year episode was some Glasses of Prosecco during the evening which brought AFib on during the early morning. Up till that point I was taking 3x 25mg Metoprolol per Day. O the suggestion of my Cardiologist I changed to 1x2 40mg Sotalol twice a day. The AFib subsided during the first 12 hours.

Since then my BPM has settled down to 40-55 BPM. This is worrying me as I tend to have some dizzy spells. I wonder & worry about taking another before I go to sleep.

BPM a little low so best discuss with your treating doctor I think.

Hi Hugo

I'm not sure if I'm reading your post correctly, but am I right in thinking you've increased your dose of Sotalol and are still doing so? If so this could be causing your low heart rate and I would return to the dose you were prescribed.

Of course I am not a medical person so all I can say arises out of my own experiences with sotalol for 20+ years but despite being an old drug it really works for me and keeps my bpm around 72 on 2× 80 per day.In hospital they said if it went below 50 they would be concerned so take advice before you take any more because it can elongate the beats .

Best to discuss with your doctor.

I was taking 1x 80mg table 2 x per day but having fibrillations periodically.

I then had an ablation and was told to stop the bisoporal but when I stopped the bisoporal the fibrillations returned.

But since the ablation the bisoporal seem to work for me. I have had no problems since February 2019. So the ablation appears to have helped together with the bisoporal.

But I really think you should see your doctor as everybody is different.

I had only on afib incident in July 2017 but was put on all kinds of meds. I do not really have any problems with any of them, but I do take the sotolol 2x a day and take most of the meds at night which seems a lot better for me as I too, had some issue with dizziness and nausea. I am GOING to lose weight this year and may be can get off some of these.
